bout the black holes...i've read Stephen Hawking said there was 1% chance of this experiment creating one...but they would be small and disappear instantly...
but LHC started...and we're still here...
Yeh but thats when they start colliding beams correct me if im wrong but i think they have only fired it one way.
Collisions supposed to start 10/21 so, that's when we find out if we all die or not (among other things).
Hand Rooster is a rooster made with your hands.
well.... sucks to be us if the shit hits the fan and all hell breaks loose.
not much anyone can do anyway
🙄 😀
Me and my brother talked about this. I came to the conclusion that we will just have wait and see if ot happens. 🤣 lol Seems like a good way to die. everyone together. i wonder if the beam will make it worst and it will expand or something. lol i think there are somethings you should leave alone. taking chances make things worst....but then again i believe in taking chances. 🤣 but why don't we just see if it sucks up a another planet first and then panick. lol jk we might need that planet. Well like i said i wait and see what happens. maybe we'll get sucked in and we'll just live in a dark abyss and maybe live forever because time runs slowly. lol who knows it's just a theory. But for some reason looking a picture of blackholes creep me out. Maybe it's the entrences to hell. lol sorry.

So this thread has degenerated into the next "end of the world" discussion now....
Sigh... I thought I could actually learn something on MU for once. 😐

ehm i dont think you could survive a black hole-experience ^^ It "stretches" even LIGHT particles, doubt your body would remain in one piece.
mmm and please dont spam the topic :3

I need a die with 2 sides.
That's known as a "coin".
Oh, thanks. Too much D&D.

hmm whatever you say.
🙄
but anything could happen, And how the hell am i looking like i could spam if it's my theory 😕

heard one theory where the supposed 50 months until the possible black hole kills us all would tie in with the mayan doomsday of 2012.
hopefully they're both wrong

I don't think it is really all that easy to predict when a black hole will appear.
I mean, there are signs when one might appear, like, a supernova. But I don't think you can predict it in 50 years. Unless its more of that vague haiku Nostradamus crap.
Anyways, if I get sucked into a black hole, I want it to be naturally, not because some geeks decided to make a void of space. To think they could've spent that 3 billion on something useful. Like stem cell research.
Man, I think I am in a bad mood.

When I first heard about this whole experiment, I instantly thought "Hah! what a waste of time!"
I was expecting the vatican to jump in and shoot some people or something xD
Ok seriously now, Isn't it funny that scientist (who are mostly atheists) are trying to find god-cells?
And the whole black whole experiment? Some kids weren't paying attention in my class because they were pretty convinced that the world was ending -_-
The most scientific scenario (imho) of a black hole appearing near Earth would be when the sun dies and goes supernova...by which earth should be destroyed, and if not, we'll get to see the black hole or "the black bird that consumes the sky", whichever tickles your fancy 🙄 I doubt it can be caused by some crappy cannon (though it looks so awesome in Geass 🤣 )
Humans can't predict the Apocalypse nor can they cause it. The decision is left to god.

Lol hope you were kidding about the "god cells " part.
And how in the heavens a supernova causes a black hole o.o. A supernova simply explodes, and thats all folks!

It's not god cells, it's god particle and that is only a nickname for Higgs boson... just another buzzword the media use, nothing got to do with the religious affiliations of the Scientists involved.

and it was such a nice topic...so please no more dooms day theories...
anyways, most common way of forming black holes is gravitational collapse of some heavy objects (mostly stars)...and gravitational collapse happens when object's internal pressure can't withstand the object's own gravity...
and you can't survive a near black hole experience (if the gravitational field is strong enough) ...you'll be stretched into spaghetti by tidal force, before torn apart on molecular level...
black holes that might be formed by LHC will be very small and have a gravitational strength of a mosquito.

Psh, end of the world. Whatever.
What's exciting about the LHC is that it will allow scientists to decisively prove wether some of the most basic principles of particle physics are correct or not. You have to understand that when you get down the nitty gritty details of science like this, it's almost all based on THEORY, not proven fact. The LHC gives us the ability to PROVE some of these theories, which will allow advances in the field never thought possible even 20 years ago.
Besides, the LHC rap is friggin hilarious. Watch the youtube vid if you haven't already.

Just for anyone who's curious the higgs boson is the particle that theoretically gives universe mass and people are trying to find it so they can create a unifying theory of everything.

Not to mention that as even light cant escape is you can't technically take pictures of it. 😀
and for an amusing take on the whole end of the world thing
