Hey there, I'm coriolis representing The Waffle House scanlation group. We're a small team of people whom, well, there's a reason why we're here, so I'll cut down to the chase.
It's been a good few years since this group has been created and doing what we all do best, and it's time to expand the staff groupings. We're pretty small in numbers, but with quite a large project base(Ignore our staff page, its like 1/3 of that LOL!) which consists of various genres, comedy, action, mecha, yuri, shounen-ai, shoujo, fantasy, etc., as every -active- member does a few things. We don't mind really, we do it cause we like to, no other reason then that. We don't release fast, we don't rush, we enjoy translation/proofing/editing/qc'ing our projects. We are fans as well, that's why we're here!
Anyways, where was I....ahhh right. The projects.

Looking for Jap->Eng translator
This is not all, feel free to inquire about any of our projects. Potentially new ones as well, we have a few projects coming to a close(Including Kemono, Toriko, Fairy Cube, among others), so we're looking to pick up new projects as well.
Experience is not necessary but it would be nice. Obvious factors in staff positions are a given:
Editors have a graphics processing client(Photoshop, GIMP, etc.) with experience cleaning, typesetting, etc.
Proofers to have a good knowledge of english(and Japanese would be awesome) language skills to edit and fix text, and good communication with the translator in case there is confusion.
QC'ers to be as anal as you can get of course, we like HQ stuff, with knowledge in editing such as leveling, colours/shades and other redrawing/cloning techniques.
As a final note, no staff member is permanent, as of course, we're all volunteers in the world of scanlation, as its by the fans, for the fans. If you are interested in a position for a project and it is a short finished project, after its done, it's your choice whether or not to continue being in the group. We appreciate members as they are.
Another notice, our staff group as well as the channel idlers, consists of weird people. If you want to check us out and idle around and hear the, potentially rare now since I've mentioned it, conversations(or participate), feel free to join us at #thewafflehouse @ irc.irchighway.net . You may be offended when discussion of pedophilia, hentai, yuri, yaoi, incest(AND TWINCEST!!!!) and other random topics that, god knows, why we discuss.
Oh, and if you are 14/f/US or under, please don't make contact with Johnny_Mneunomic(or Johnny_ <something), it's for your own safety LOL!
Thanks and regards,
-cori

I sent a pm in mIRC and no one got to me...
I just wanted to say that I'm interested in translating Jigoku Shoujo for your group. I just bought volume 1 of the manga and I think it's really interesting...in a creepy kind of way.^^
I'm pretty confident in my Japanese skills. I studied for a year in Japan, and I have translated Tenshi na Konamaiki (only till volume 2), and Full Metal Panic: Sigma (which is ongoing). If you have a test of some sort I wouldn't mind taking it. 🙂
I'm already a member of another group though. I hope you don't mind.
Hmmm, I'd be interested in QC'ing the .hack stuff.
I'm a huge fan of the series (I have every game, the original four and the two out for G.U., In fact, while I am posting this, G.U. is on the in background (I am trying to kill time so Crimson VS battles go quicker, aswell as doing a Dungeon), and am completely anal about proper names, names of events, etc etc.
Get back to me ASAP, if not, I'll try and swing by the IRC chan.

What is the difference between a proofer and a editor? I don't know much about scanlating so it's really confusing.

Proofreaders are the ones who check the translations for grammar, syntax, and the rest of that junk.
Editors are the ones who clean the pages & make it presentable for the typesetting period.

I'm quite interested in the QC-ing and proofing jobs for anything you need done. I have a ridiculous (and often annoying...) obsession with grammar and the like, and I have a very basic (and slowly growing) knowledge of Japanese. Although I have no experience QC-ing/proofing manga like this, I do have a bit experience doing the same things in other venues (copy editing - I suppose that's what it would be called).
Please contact me here if I seem like someone who could help you out; otherwise, I'll try to get to IRC later on in time and speak to you there.
Thanks!

Hey all, wow, I was out enjoying the weather(which is gorgeous here in Toronto - for now of course, damned global warming) 🙄
Anyways, please contact me at baka.coriolis [at] gmail.com
I had a few PMs while I was afk, but by the time I responded, the person was offline, I apologize 😛
As mentioned, a proofer is someone who checks the translations for grammar error and various potential mistakes. A Japanese background is very much preferred but obviously, it doesn't happen often. Therefore, someone with a strong background in English. Examples would be making sure quotations and text makes sense, and if not, correspond with the translator to double check on the possible meanings.
An editor has two jobs, of which sometimes is split depending on skills needed. One is cleaning, which can be very hard. Here the editor cleans the raws(which isn't hard, since all the raws we use, we own and debind(Which I hate, debinding perfectly good manga, but it must be done... 🤢 ) neatly, so all our scans are pretty good. Redrawing, cloning and leveling are the tools of the trade. It's not very hard, but practice and experience will easily come. The other is type setting, pretty much the insertion of text. Knowledge of preferred fonts, sizes and when to use bolt/italics/styles are expected but its not hard to learn 🙂
Again, my email is up there.
Thanks for all the responses, hope to hear from you soon 😀 😀 😀

E-mail sent. 😀
Sent it from my Gmail, which has my real name on it. Meh, no big deal, I don't think. I am still Kaioh, most other places.

Updated first post, it seems I got a little confused with the staff recruiting, Proofers/QC'ers are only a small priority, and quote, "Theres no need for proofers or QC'ers if there isn't any scripts that are translated 😢 ", so I'm going to remove it for now.
I still have the contacts for the previously interested people whom emailed me, you'll be first to know if we actually find some translators haha. But I'd like to thank you alot for offering help, it is much appreciated!
Right now, translators are a huge thing for us, we had a handful but now we only have two active, one doing .hack, and the other.....ummm, everything but she's getting annoyed wahh 🤢
Thanks again, and take care,

I'm still learning Japanese, but I am adept at Chinese...so if the raws are in Chinese I can translate whatever is needed to be translated, and if there are no Chinese raws then I can try to find Chinese translations of that manga and translate it to English.
