A death have a deeper impact on me, but whats more important is that the story is good. Keeping a character alive could take it's toll on the story and visa versa. When it comes to shounen manga it's usually the 1st that occurs.
Concerning that spoiler:
If it's true that aka's true purpose is indeed immortality, then Sasuke stabbing Itachi for real could reveal Itachi's goals as well. 😀 😎
