It's called killing off a completely irrelevant character to pretend that the main character is actually threatened.
Has anyone counted how many lines the 1st division vice-captain guy had before he died? I'm actually curious to know 🤣
Assuming it's in the single digits...

I know! Me and a friend were always talking about how characters (ie good guys) here NEVER died--even when they should have. They get cut in half, have limbs ripped off, huge gaping holes in the body, they are sliced up and bleeding everywhere, with every bone in their bodies broken and multiple organs pierced/wounded/injured. Yet they always manage to survive. I guess that since this is the last arc Tite Kubo feels that it's finally time, or okay, to kill off the characters.
