Has being exposed to manga/manhwa/manhua/webtoons and/or anime influenced you?

Just curious (I know, I know. Way over-used).
I've recently found out that a number of people in my school are in this scene, but many are only lightly affiliated. Most of them don't show their knowledge of this openly, though a few are obvious otakus.
Personally, I've yet to contribute much to the industry, though I do plan on buying more tanks (tankobons) and joining/forming a scanlation team in the future (once I'm settled in at college). Seriously thinking about having a large impact on the entire industry via business dealings in the far future. Wishful thinking, perhaps, but I'd really like to prop up the ailing industry since I do so enjoy and value these works, even if I never get rich enough.

When I was in 5th grade, I saw an "American" character speaking heavily accented Engrish. I researched the reason why their foreign characters spoke so poorly; why didn't they hire people who spoke better? I learned that it is usually a Japanese teacher with a Japanese accent teaching English, and I thought to myself that it was a bit odd that they would do that, so I decided to go to Japan and teach how to speak English "correctly".
And now, I am 23 and halfway through my Bachelor's degree which will allow me to go to Japan to teach English. I have wised up a lot since I was a kid, and am no longer as ignorant about their schooling and such, but I am definitely still passionate about my career choice. Anime may have started out as a hobby, but it has greatly influenced my career goals, friendships, and how I spend my free time.

Your poll needs more options.
Influence? It's entertaining and it has taught me much about artwork, but I've always enjoyed graphic novels since I was in preschool. Manga and Anime however, have taught me that they can be used to tell more than just gags and stories of superheroes.

Definitely room for more options and even another poll on whether you show your otaku level in public, but I wanted to keep it clean and simple.

Please specify what you mean by "influenced" since this thread is pretty close to this one.

By "influenced," I suppose I mean changed your life. Don't think I can edit polls, though.
