A section in these forums for asking and answering questions related to the scanlation process, namely translation, editing, and scanning. This is hardly an original idea since the Manganews forums have these, but from my perspective, I'm more active here and would be more apt to ask/answer questions here than over there. Translation questions especially are common, as the learning curve can be steep and it's very helpful to have someplace to turn to when you're stumped. 😕

Anyway, it'd be nice to hear from others about whether not they would take advantage of such a section were it made available, and from other translators/editors/scanners about whether they would be active and answer questions from others.

In the long run I think it would contribute to making this site more and more a gathering place where scanlators can communicate with each other outside of their respective groups.

Hmm...I can see the point. I guess if we (Manick) does decide to add this, we could always add a new member group called "scanlator". It's not exactly a hard thing for Manick to make a new forum, anyways.

Oh, how many scanlators DO we have here?

sounds like a good idea, it might just get some more people involved in the scene

Yes, a good idea. I don't see why not.

This would be much smaller than Mangahelpers, just a section with 3 forums where people can ask for help with translations, editing and scanning respectively. Mangahelpers seems to be like public translation almost. People post entire scripts for specific mangas and have others look over them. This would just be for specific spots which is more appropriate for translators who are already members of scanlation groups, and who might be paranoid about people stealing their work. Also, Mangahelpers seems to be very shounen manga-oriented. Since this would be for specific spots only, it wouldn't be geared toward any specific genre.

In general I just think that it's a good idea to take advantage of translators like me who tend to hang around this site a lot. Not only that, but I think it's a good idea that might help attract more experienced translators to this site who might help out in other areas such as adding new mangas to the database.

I'm not entirely sure about this one... I think I'd want to talk it over with mangahelpers before I did anything.. make sure we're not stepping on their toes.

don't think it'd necessarily stepping on anyone's toes myself. I believe Anima simply meant it'd be useless or rather repetitive because mangahelpers already has that area covered quite well. well i'd say go ahead with the scanlator section but yeah dont see it being used much (at least at first). never expected the recruiting section to get used as much as it does. well tossing in my two cents. 🙄
