I thought it may be a good idea to add an "dropped: yes/no/ N/A" option on the manga info page.

I've found myself wondering if a manga is dropped or if the scanlations are just slow.. I'm sure you have too.

Even if the manga is good, i might be reluctant to pick it up if they dropped it after the third volume... might as well spare me the agony of wanting to know what happens next.

Yes, i know it seems like an impossible task, but that's why the N/A option exist. I expect most of the series to be this.

One problem i see is if the scanlators are taking a pause, but not really dropped it. My suggestion is simply that the manga is "dropped: yes" and when they start scanlating again it changes to "No" again.

And this could be an automatic thing, like when no new releases has been made in 3 months it's automatically dropped.

i think it'd be quite nice to see a graph like they use on anidb showing which groups have completed it in it's entirety, which have ended it and which have dropped it.

I was going to suggest something like this too xD it saves time going to the latest releases and checking the dates for those with a slower connection.

An "Inactive" somewhere on the page if nothing has been released in a few months would be good.

The problem is that you can't know for sure if the manga is dropped or not. Sure, if the latest release was 3 years ago, the manga is probably dropped but you can't know for sure. My suggestion is that you change it to dropped only if you're certain. I'm expecting that for a lot of manga there will be no information on it's status, but there will be an option for the ones we know about at least.

i think we should leave the dropped thing to the scanlators themselves, rather than to us users. If they plan on dropping something, they should let us know. I think future project should be a state too so scanlators know if someone has a series planned for scanlated. I've seen a group release it prior to another groups and they both didn't realise it was in the works. I don't think number of groups will be an issue, i've not seen that many groups working on the same series. Even naruto/bleach don't have that many groups.

This is true, but i've seen just as many that doesn't have a "dropped mangas". And the idea is for us users here in mangaupdates to have an easy and fast overview over the information of a manga. Looking up the scanlator(s) and checking their website defeats this purpose.

You can't expect everything handed down on a silver platter, persay...

The problem with that right now is that they would have to go through every manga and every group scanlating it, see if they're still doing it or not, and then add something along the lines of (Continuing, Stopped, etc.). It seems something unnecessary for them to actually go through.

Or it could be automatically changed to active for a few months if anyone adds a release...
I don't know whats viable, I'm not familiar with it.
It already does it for scanlators, I think that is done automatically? I don't know if the same thing can be applied to the manga.

Yes, an overview of information for the manga. The manga's activity in itself is something different.

Besides, if you check the recent releases for any series, and you see a scanlators name, you can judge based on that if they're still doing it.

Clicking a scanlator and then going to whatever website they have is not that hard.

Seriously, are you lazy? It takes maybe two minutes to check something like that.

Same thing could be said about the reading lists. It'd only take a few minutes to check the website for releases. But if your keeping track of hundreds of manga, that's going to be seriously difficult to maintain an eye on.

I like the idea of having something that says if a manga is dropped. Some scanlators don't have websites or forums and not all of them update their drop list. I can also see the problem with taking on such a project. Maybe it'd be a good idea to contact Anidb.net and ask how they manage their status list.
