Yeah and then you can spend the rest of your lifetime biting your nails and smashing your head against the wall .... because Miura will be dead before having finished berserk..... According to him volume 30 is about the beginning of the manga which gives a taste of how long it will be .....And the general mood of his interviews goes in the same way : he's a big fan of guin saga wich is the longest novel ever (as of 2008 there are 118 volumes and it's still carrying on ) and when he talks about his inspiration it seems like he's always pourring in the manga some new stuff he saw on the TV ....

So I guess IF he doesn't die before it will be AT LEAST 80 volumes which would make it the longest running comics with a single plot ever .... Kochikame and Golgo 13 don't have a general plot and Cerebus in United States took "ONLY" 27 years (1977-2004) to complete .

And Kochikame kinda has a plot.. the little policeman wants to get rich. It's like Gutts wanting to kill stuff. All the time, something else to kill. 😔

No Kochikame has a background not a general plot ....
The same goes for Ah megami sama or Golgo : the former is about the attempt of keichi and belldandy to become a regular couple (kiss , sleeping together ,etc...) but obviously past the fist volumes it never makes a single step forward , the latter about the regulation of the world by golgo 13 .
What's more and points out the inexistence of a general plot all those episodes are not linked : there won't be many references to the previous episodes , there is no continuation and except for some part (like in kochikame the boy who becomes a girl because he's in love with ryotsu or in bedandy the appearance of the sistes) no specific order . The anime clearly shows that through the fact that they have totally changed the order of the episode without jeopardizing the show .

In berserk for Guts killing demons,apostles and all thoses monsters is just a byproduct in his quest to kill Griffith and cure Caska . If you don't see the chapters in the order then it won't make sense as everything is linked .

It's because caska was raped , the band of the hawk slaughtered and himself sacrificed that he's chasing griffith and the apostles . Through this he meets Puck .It also because of this that Caska has gone insane and in his search for Caska , prosecuted as a witch (as she's insane) , he has to fight the Curch even if he didn't intend to do it at all . It's because of this that he meets Serpico and the girl . It's because of everything that caused the eclipse that the kingdom eventually collapses urging the emperor to invade the country and it's because of this that Griffith can come back as a savior and popular leader with the new band of the hawk (that he gathered thanks to his new abilities that he gained through the eclipse .

80 volumes?? Then I take back what I said earlier. I wait a little longer before continuing...Happier now kiddies? However, I do want to finish a manga before I die. No matter how great a journey, there is no point if it has no ending. At the rate Miura is going he probably will be dead before finishing it. Maybe a close friend or talented artist can finish Berserk but I doubt that it will compare to the original.

Don't worry, Bastard!! will beat Berserk in that regard.

Been on-going for longer than Berserk, and the release date for Volume 25's been announced for April.

It's a shame, because Bastard!! looks pretty awesome, but seeing as Hagiwara is such a lazy bastard (Which can be seen by his half-assed efforts to reach magazine deadlines with his chapters) I'll probably end up never reading it.

For the title of the slowest mangaka ? Anyway this is neither the title that Berserk is aiming nor the one I'm rooting for ... Berserk will be the longest running comics (with a single story) ever .

What's more I think Berserk and Bastard are both shitty on the beginning wether art or story.... except while Berserk has reached the level of quality we're all aware Bastard has failed in pulling off the same deed .Sure the art is great but the mangaka has real problem with the art of storytelling... His manga is full of loop , loopholes and retcons ... It seems like he came up with better idea all along and that he decided to change the story except he doesn't know how to do it without grossly damaging the coherence of the story . And the manga still has to bear utterly ridiculous postulat took from the beginning (like the name of the hero : dark shneider , the heavy metal influence as much grotesque as the rock and roll influence in jojo's , the very idea of the character ,etc...) like a flawed genetic code.... Bastard is the epitome of those things we loved as child and that we now gape with a look of disbelief " how the hell could I found COOL those pathethic behaviour, names ,etc..." 😔
Bastard has made a breaktrough for mangas and it's basically the 1st dark fantasy manga but since this time more worthy inheretor have appeared.

I would say that Bastard is to Berserk what Ninja Cross is to Vagabond X/Kenshin Tsuikohen... When they began they were standing as equal but now Bastard/Ninja Cross look like the legacy of a time which has been discarded by the current industry , looking for respectability : the sex-violence loaded manga lampooned and feared in both Europe and United States . It's a very characteristic culture and it doesn't come across well in other cultures.If Samurai Kyo has appeared in my opinion it's precisely because Bastard was doomed as a blockbuster title : it took everything great (the double personnality , the love hate relationship , all the plot with the generals etc..) and brought it to respectability dulling the sex content to an acceptable level .Now Bastard can't boast about anything . If Berserk/Kenshin tsuikohen have found such a large audience it's mainly because of the impressive artwork AND the very strong plot .
