The author announced on his blog that he plans to end the manga in 2-3 years from now.
He said that he had gotten an offer from some American Hollywood movie productions and some TV production company (most likely to be - HBO, Showtime, or STARZ). And because of contract violations, and story scenario confirmations, etc., the author of Gantz must come up with some retard conclusion to end the manga so that these offers won't expire.

If I get a crappy ending after readwing and rereading 300+ chaps, heads are going to roll. I STILL haven't recovered from oh greats disappointment known as air gear so if I see another promising manga destroyed.... I'm gonna break >_<

I heard something that the publisher of manga gantz hold the rights, so would they have sold it? I am not sure how accurate this information is though.

I think that was just a hiccup in his story. I didn't like that, and I do not think many people did, so he changed it. At least that is what it seemed...

According to the last two chapters, GANTZ ENDS THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. Last chapter - 20.06.13. Or so said the text.
