but is it just me, or does the art seem to be improving in about 90% of all active manga?

Logically (and because of this, ideally) art improves in 100% of active manga. By virtue of it being active, the artist is working on it; by working on it, the artist gains experience; through experience comes better art.

well...that is very true....
but i meant lately, there seems to be a spike in artwork getting better....

alot of Programs used for the manga and staff for the manga are becoming more and more developed. Especially mangas like hunter x hunter. there are so many people that Yoshihiro Togashi has helping him every second of the day lol. basically all you need now adays is a good design and a great story that can be stretched out and chewd up

Actually no...the other topic is a poll on opinion on how art and style will change and what it has in store for the future while this one is in regard to the changes manga has gone through

but the point is obvios that this one is about the past
and this one is about the future
i dought that the mods will actually shut it down for that

yea, either way.
comparing older Gantz to new Gantz chapters....you can clearly see a difference, and even with bleach and Naruto and all that...its getting so much clearer and realistic.

you should really see the evolution in the reborn characters. I really think all the characters look way to feminine but the other point is his originality in the face forms and eyes. but in the beggining it was sort of the same as all the rest.

Yes, I have noticed it mostly in one piece, somehow the ink seems better in the new chapters, the shading and everything, I think as time goes the drawers and all get wiser and better

i've noticed changes to but some of them i dont like. i thought the art seemed better during the soul society ark for bleach then now

I think there are two seperate things going on:
a) artists getting better-for example the later chapters of Fruits Basket have better art than earlier ones just 'cause the author has been developing her style over time and getting more practice
b)preference-do you just happen to prefer the more recent art style to past ones?
I happen to prefer the more modern art style* to stuff from the 80's/90's, and well that's the type of art getting released now. I can't stand 80's/90's shoujo 'cause the eyes and flowers are just over the top-the good recent stuff tends to tone it down/play with it more. Some series use lines very similar to that found in some shounen mangas-and that influence makes a big difference in the art.
