And how do you guys recommend I maintain the battery? Keep checking the battery level, or is there a software for that?
There are times when you will miss what you never had. I wonder how you will find what you so desperately need.

I think most computers warn you at 10% or so

Yes, they do, though that's customizable.

Most current laptops also seem to have an indicator for the condition of your battery, if that's what you're asking.
If not, one must wonder why you are answering your own question.

Well, I was hoping somebody could suggest a software which keeps an eye on the battery, in case I can't keep an eye on it.

On windows 7 at least...
The battery settings can be customized to only charge up to a certain percentage when connected to an AC supply or shut down at a certain percentage when on battery power.
