I was wondering, if anyone has an idea...

Where they got the freaking nose bleed from? I mean, in my life I have experienced a "situation" like that, but I have never gotten a nose bleed before.

(Although, what did happen was the girl just didn't talk to me for quite sometime... it was her FAULT, that she didn't lock the door!!!)

Scientifically speaking, would the nose bleed actually only occur if too much blood rushes to your head or something?

Well, I don't think, that even a blood rush to the head would make you nosebleed..it's just a sidekick...

No, it usually has some sickness as a cause for it.
Normally you won't get a nosebleed even if your blood pressure rises very high. The capillars in the nose tissue ( and upper tissues ) have to be weakened to let the blood leak out.

Mangakas probably find it easier to understand...instead of drawing someone with a baka impression ( omg, wow, how sexy/big breasted etc etc ), they just draw a nosebleed...everybody knows what that means.

Me and a friend were talking about this once, and the theory we came up with was that the character hyperventilates (in an instant? Yeah, I never said this was a perfect theory), causing the nose bleed and the vacant expression that often accompanies it.

I've read somewhere that the nosebleed is symbolic to an erection. in the past (before hentai and smut) they used it to symbolize that (the blood going to a specific area). now it became so fundamental that it is used even if mangaka don't mind drawing the actual thing.

its like, why we don't turn half blue with vertical lines on our forehead when someone says something stupid. (i would say fall too, but it happened to my friend once though it was partly because she's a klutz)

it most likely is a symbol of an erection/excitement, but yea it's kind of interesting wondering how it got started?

that depends on health situation, and the condition of the nose...
when i was a kid i had nosebleeds every spring, and everytime i got too upset. my parents had to come to school bcuz of health issues more then anyone else..
in the end, my mom had enough, so she took me to a special doctor to fix the situation for good..

so i guess that even in the realworld nosebleeds like that happen.

But your not getting nosebleeds from arousal, which is key.

I guess the nosebleed theory makes sense as symbolism for an erection, but then why are the guys fainting, too? When I see something arousing I've never fainted, but man, that would make intimacy awkward (He fainted again and is bleeding all over me. At this rate we'll never do it.)

Warn: Banned

I use to get nose bleed once every week or so. No big deal, my dad gets it, and my grandpa gets it. It's like...a tradition.

Ya get nosebleeds when you pick your nose. lol.

Hmm, it IS probably symbolic to an erection. But mangakas cant really draw erections in a 13+ manga. But its probably cause it is a manga that they get nosebleeds, cause so much blood rushes to their heads. I do not get the fainting thing though.

That doesn't happen in real life.. It's just a way for the mangakas to symbolize that the character is aroused..

Well my cousin would get nose bleeds at the drop of a hat in dry weather. However it seemed to happen quite often when he got a rush of blood to the head. Not saying that arousal would cause such but it is medically possible for some people to get them easily, but certainly not near the frequency as they show in anime and manga.

A drastic rise in blood pressure and extremely weak veins.

I'm going to go with the symbolic route with this.
As many people probably already know, Japan had DRACONIAN censorship laws for a very long time, even now they're pretty uptight about stuff.
These laws are the entire reason "tentacle" porn came to be, since they couldn't legally show 2 humans having sex, even in animation.
Not being an expert, I think the nosebleed thing's just one of the many quirky things about japanese animation/comics that comes with the culture. Like the ahoge, and the retarded guy with 15 beautiful girls desperate to get into his pants.

It's not just a symbol of erection. It's a symbol of premature ejaculation. There is a rush of blood to the body part (nose), and expulsion of fluid (blood), and then a faint (post-coital nap). It symbolizes that the woman is not just sexy enough to arouse the guy, but also finish him off.
