Before I mention the new poll, I invite you (if you haven't already) to read the [sitelink=news.html?id=437]previous news poll[/sitelink]. Spread the word, my lovely minions!
Another new poll submitted by member qrf. So do you ever start with the anime first and then go to the manga? (This applies only for the same series)
Like for me, I watched Full Metal Alchemist before reading it.
Feel free to discuss this poll on our forums here:

If you want to submit your own idea for a site poll, you can do so here:

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Would you date an otaku?
Choices:
Sure! – It’s one of my dreams! - votes: 983 (8.6%)
Maybe - It depends on the person - votes: 8762 (76.3%)
No way – I only date normal people - votes: 724 (6.3%)
I'm already in a relationship with an otaku~ - votes: 305 (2.7%)
I'm already in a relationship... but not with an otaku... - votes: 703 (6.1%)
There were 11477 total votes.
The poll ended: December 13th 2008
Most of us are reasonable, as in it depends on the person and other factors rather than just "otaku status". To all of you already in a relationship, good luck!

I voted for lulz on the last poll, because the majority was so obvious from the start. xDD So no surprise there.
The new poll is pretty obvious too, but I still wonder how many people will vote for the others. Personally, I'm OCD and so I go in the order of release. So if it's a manga-based anime, I'll always read the manga first.

Dang it, I should've put a choice with "depends which came first"

There have been several where I started out with the anime then went to the manga (like D.Gray-Man, MAR, Ueki no Housoku, Azumanga Daioh, and many more). I like go in both ways, so I don't really care which one I do first. ^^;

So long as there's a manga I'll read that first. And usually I won't bother to watch the anime afterwards unless I really really like it and really really need a fix - which hasn't happened yet, come to think of it.

Apparently most of the users go "both" ways?

The guys who are voting "No, I do not watch anime" are hardcore.

pity for them :/ unless they can read japanese, some great series are never fully translated aka suzumiya haruhi
and yes, i would recommend suzumiya haruhi or ouran host club as anime first ;p

Almost voted so myself only to realise that in the Dark Ages I, too, used to watch some anime series. But now I mostly go for the full-length ones 😀
And this poll has a really strong sexual undertone. It reminds me of 13 from House 😉

will i in the past would watch the anime first then read the manga
but then there can me times when there's no anime and only manga BUT later there's an anime series gets made like Skip Beat i had read it up to 94 chapters and and the aniem came out it nice to see the colorfull characters but its a bit boring with knowing what will happen but there can me many thing different. oh will but it the anime comes out after the manga then it just came be helped since i have already read the manga.

for one, most shoujos don't get made into (good) animes
plus the art is always funky and not pretty like the original manga
but i have watched anime... usually for shounen works (ie. dbz, gundam)
the main reason i don't watch anime is b/c it takes too long to dl and it's faster to read a manga :3
and i find it rather sad that of the entire mu community, only bout 1000 are in a relationship

Why isn't there a "sometimes" or "in rare cases" in this poll?
I'm not voting.

Of course. Many times I never knew the manga existed before watching the anime, and ended up finishing up or continuing the series via its manga counterpart.
Or it could be a manga spinoff of an original anime production.
Also, I find its somewhat common for groups to completely ignore manga until they get picked up as an anime. And -then- they go and start scanlating it. Once more, that's really a situation that's unavoidable in watching the anime prior to reading the manga.
And I happen to be someone who doesn't think anime always trumps manga, nor manga always trumps anime. People who live in absolutes are ignorant.
