So do you typically read the manga first? Or perhaps watch the anime first? (Applies only to things of the same series).

I personally go both ways. For Full Metal Alchemist and Mai-Hime, I watched the anime first and then went to the manga. But for Mai-Otome and Mahou Sensei Negima!, I read the manga first and then went to the anime...

Question: Do you ever start reading the manga after watching the anime? (ie, doing things backwards)
Choices:
Yes, I only go from anime to manga - votes: 462 (4.2%)
Yes, I go both ways - votes: 8620 (78.7%)
No, I only go from manga to anime - votes: 1101 (10.1%)
No, I do not watch anime - votes: 770 (7%)
There were 10953 total votes.
The poll ended: December 20th 2008

I do both.
I'm not gonna say I go both ways... 😐

Anime to manga: Gurren Lagaan, FMA, Naruto, Bleach to name a few
Other way around for Soul Eater, History's Strongest Disciple.

I don't watch anime, at least not if it's an adaptation from a manga. Only exception would be that there is no scanlations available. Ô_Ö

I was thinking about that too~ yaoi fantasies 🤣

I usually watch the anime first, if it's interesting, I read the manga too. I get bored with the anime if I've already read the manga. I don't watch much anime though.

I'm do both...I also do not want to say I go both ways, that'd give people ideas 🤣

Like I watched Naruto before reading it, and watched Eyeshield 21 before reading it. 🙂

I read manga FAR more than I watch anime, and generally I don't watch the anime even if I like the manga, but of course there are exceptions and there have also been a few where I've watched the anime first and then read the manga.

I watch a lot more anime than I read manga (and haven't been reading that long). If I watch the anime it's hard for me to want to read the manga. It does happen occasionally when a manga adaptation anime has an abrupt or poorly constructed ending that I'll look toward the manga (i.e. Tenjou Tenge). Or if theres lots of filler (Bleach). In some very rare cases, I'll start the manga even when there's no filler in a series, just because I love it so much and can't wait a week to see the next episode (Claymore)

It hasn't realy happened much yet that a manga I have read a lot of has been adapted into an anime (the only instance I can think of is Shoujo Sect, and I'm not sure that counts exactly). I'll be watching the anime for Kuro Kami in January after having read the manga quite a ways; so I guess at that point I will be able to see how I like going from manga to anime.

I go for both, but only if I like the story enough to find it worthwhile.

Manga -> anime is the more typical direction though.

I read the manga, but I seldom watch its anime. There are things I watched their anime first, like TRC since it was on TV before I knew of the manga.

I don't watch the anime though, unless it came before the manga.

I do both. It's not a matter I decide on, it just goes that way on its own. But I do have to agree, it's more likely that there's more chances of going from Manga --> Anime.
Manga --> Anime: Lovely Complex, To Heart, School Rumble, Full metal Panic
Anime --> Manga: Fullmetal Alchemist, Sumomomo Momomo, Air Gear, Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle

Although I prefer reading the manga first since sometimes in the anime they cut a lot of the important stuff. The manga is always much more detailed than the anime for some reason. .__.

I go both ways.
Usually I'll read the manga first, but at times there's a few that the manga doesn't look like it'll appeal to my taste... but then I'll see the anime and that does. So I'll end up watching the anime and then going back to read the manga.
