I wasn't sure if this poll--when referring to salaries--was supposed to be about base salary or total yearly compensation.

Luckily for me, it didn't matter. I'm a software engineer in a very tech-heavy area and even my starting salary out of college 5 years ago barely surpasses $50/hr when considering a 40-hour work week 52 weeks per year.

(my salary now is... notably higher)

Internship position that doesn't pay. I've spent literally my entire adulthood (ie: 10 years from when I turned 18 up until now O_o) first studying to be a medical student, then studying as a medical student, and now, finally, going through my unpaid internship period until I can pass my final exams and become a paid intern. This is what you get when you give in to your parents' nagging-that's-actually-thinly-veiled-threats and decide to pursue one of the most demanding, time-intensive, stressful professions in the world. If anyone here is actually contemplating Medicine, I can tell you with confidence: steer well clear, kids (no matter where in the world you live)!

Where is the "can't work due to disability" (which I don't get proper, or really any, help for) option?

At the low end of $21-$30 an hour (i had to convert from the €). It´s a bit above the average salary in Germany. Sign up with the government you all. I also get a so-called 13th-month pay in December, as we get 190% of the monthly salary to spend on Christmas and such. I can't complain 🙂 .

How is losing half your paycheck to taxes "free"? Also, to answer your question, college tution in America is about $3-$5k (semi)annually depending on where you go. But, that also excludes the interest that student loans build up (Which you can mostly avoid by, either, paying the bill on the first day, or actually having the money to go to college).

Taxes start at 14% of your income over here and should be at about 20% on average. Part of my pay is also deduced for my pension fund, for my free medical care, etc. Taxes further finance government employes. Like cops, or you know... librarians. But no. Let´s get rid of taxes and put me on the street!

I know of hight profile youtube and podcast personalities who have twice as much debt due to going for costly educations as film school. Lindsay Ellis, for example, didn´t quite finish film school (i think) and she is one such person. She is still far in the red. Patreon and all.

Mind telling me what's going on then because I keep finding sources stating that German personal income tax is 45%-48%. OR that you're taxed 14% when you make below €55K, but, the moment you make above €55K, you tax rate skyrockets to 42%.

I can only speak for the underhanded stuff happening in the U.S., but the money that is suppose to go to towards funding those government institutions never reaches it. And, no one wants to investigate why that is. That's why I've always said that I'm against increases taxes (Or even making new ones) because we don't know where the money, that is already suppose to be going towards those services, is going (We suspect some things, but no concrete proof).

Assuming that you're paying per semester (On the low end of the estimate I spit-balled): $33,654 / $3000 = 11.218 Semesters in college
11.218 Semesters / 2 Semester (Every year) = 5.609 years in college
And, for the past several years, it's been said, several times, that the "average American college student" spends 6 years at whatever institute they go to (Not the initial four that is always advertised). But, like I said, the number I gave out was a pure guess based off of what I briefly researched in regards to the price of going to a trade school and knowning how much my student loan covered for my one semester of college ($3500). Some places charge up to $8k-$10k. The more prestigious schools in the country can charge up to $50,000 per year (Based off of MIT's tuition price, but that also accounts for housing and food, just attending is probably closer to $15k-$20k going by the Summer intuition).

Also, this is leaving out the fact that the high schools are no longer properly teaching their students (Thanks Bush and Obama), so a lot of people going straight from high school to college have to "retake" classes because they're inadequately prepared.

I don't know who that is (Deleted my Google account several months ago, and I don't really follow any e-celebs). Also, how is that my problem? Sounds like they made a poor decision, and now have to pay the price for it. That's why I only attended college for one semester, and flunked out of it (Like so many other intelligent individuals). Because I saw it was a waste of time and money, despite being told, since just about birth, that I "need" a college degree. And, one can't really say that I made the wrong decision when companies value experience and "soft skills" over education and majority of college graduates are "underemployed".

Also, with that little bit of insight, it explains SO much about why American media is completely broken. You have nothing but a bunch of "failed filmmakers" trying to tell people how to "properly" make "objectively good" entertainment, meanwhile NONE of them have made any actual pursuit or investment in the entertainment industry beyond just being "educated" on the subject and going on to make critical videos on YouTube. Now, if they make good money with those videos, I can't criticize them for continuing that venture and making a profit, but that's not going to stop me or anyone else from stating that their opinion is shit.

Marital partners also fall into different tax brackets and the couple decides who is taxed havier. Spoilers, it´s never the bread maker who end up with up to 45%. And good luck getting such a heavy paying job to even qualify for that amount! Spoilers, "taxable income" is not what you think it is and those investment bankers or business tycoons can pay up for all I care. Singles as me who aren´t registered with a church and don´t have a dog get off pretty light too. Most people do. The government even pays you money for having kids for like 2 decades. Per kid that is.

But hey. It´s nice that you know my checks and tax returns. Or that (German) taxes never return to the government. The gag is up. My profession never existed because it can´t exist. I even faked my military career and was never rewarded with 12 months of (almost) no questions as unemployment checks so that I could hunt full-time for a training place at a library. And I have Bush and Obama to blame? Bush and Obama took away my job(s) 🤣 !

Going by what I know about American taxes, those high-income earners are the reason my country is still functioning. As was said back in 2014, and still remains true, those earning above $61k (55k) pay for over 90% of the taxes here in the U.S.. Is it the same case over in Germany?
