I have no idea if its worth it. I just read it because unlike most manga, it has a decent level of violence, which most manga are severely lacking in these days.

Elfen Lied is an amazing series IMHO ^_^ It's really cruel at times, but it's great.

I loved the anime

i liked more the anime version.

but, if you watch the anime is almost certain that you'll want to read the manga. of course if you can tolerate some gore, you'll be rewarded with great characters, and a great story.

i read like the first 2 volumes, wasn't really gory at all to me....berserk on the other hand, guts averages around 4 kills everytime he swings his sword.

Nothing like reviving a thread. I did a search and found this. It appears some of you have read Elfen Lied manga. I am searching for the mexican version so I can read it. I cannot read japanese and it is not in english yet. Is there somewhere I can purchase this online?

This and Berserk are depressing in different ways. Elfen Lied tends to give you a false sense of hope, and quickly snatches it away with a gory scene, while repeating this process many times.

Berserk has many major, yet widely spread out scenes, in which you feel bad just because of the emotional attachment with the characters.

Elfen Lied is not a manga you should be reading for the first time. It takes time to get desensitized to the violence. If you are not sure if you can handle this type of violence watch the anime first, I view it more of a light version of the manga. If you have problems with the anime then you won't be able to handle the manga. On the other hand it does have a great story once you can "stomach" the outcomes. This has been one of my favourite manga to come back to. Definitely a 9 out of 10
