What the difference between manga's titled with (novel) in them? I've seen this a few times already and I'm curious as to the differences between them and which is better?

Example:
Zero no Tsukaima (Novel)
vs.
Zero no Tsukaima

novel is a novel, a book, with no images (or not that many...) and only (or mostly) text
(novel based on a book or the other way around)

and manga is manga

The "novel" refers to Japanese light novel, which in most cases are the original media, being the manga an adaption of the light novel.

Respecting which is better, I think most manga based on light novels are good, but I still like the novels better.

Basically its a question of what you like read more... book or manga.
I prefer light novels usually cause there more in depth (and the story is usually farther ahead xD) but manga helps you visualize it easier.

Only one problem, there is quite a few light novels, but there are very few translations of them... Its easier to translate a manga that has some 1000-2000 words then it is to translate a book with 30,000-50,000 words... (my gratitude goes out to those wonderful translators salutes)

its not a question if its easier or not

its just that it takes a lot longer

for me
usualy the light novel is better
but in some cases like Haruhi...i prefer the manga version...since most of it takes place in the protagonists mind...it gets very repetative and in alot of cases boring...atleast when there is pictures involved you can atleast look at the cute asahina instead of just reading how cute she is over and over and over and over...and they even skip out the constant lets remind the reader that Nagato is dolllike, koizumi is weird, asahina is so cute, sexy, boobish, haruhi is annoying and Kyon complain ALL THE FUCKING TIME...ok so...most of it is in the manga...but toned down a little
end of haruhi hate

I prefer light novels but translations are, understandably, few and far between, which limits your choice. There are a few good sites where some amazing people have spent epic amounts of time translating the novels but if you can read Japanese there is a huge selection of light novels.

Generally manga are pretty good as well (going by the few sotries where I've read both the novel and the manga) but, as other have said, I prefer the length and depth of a novel.

Of course it all comes down to personal preference. I like books, I have a good imagination. I read a lot. So novels suit me more. Some people prefer the visual aid you get with manga. Naturally some novels are bad, some are good, just like any story. In those cases sometimes the manga, or anime even, can provide an alternative version of the story which is better, but in general I vote for novels. You should try read one and decide for yourself though.
