popularity ofcourse. honestly he's not really the strongest guy there i believe. he's got a lot of potential but other than that he's sort of weaker than a good amount of the characters. especially some of the Shinigami who've yet to show a Bankai. in comparison to the Arrancars he's about as strong if not better than Grimmjaw at least. as for the Gotei 13, well the rankings for them is iffy. but he was good enough to fight Byakuya evenly. though with Kenpachi it's really questionable....

Arrancar @ Espada = Hollow + Shinigami
Ichigo = Human + Shinigami + Hollow
So, I vote for Ichigo. I believe that he still have a lot of potentials.

Yeah! I have to go with ichigo as well! I think if he could gain enough experience in battle, he could be a monster. But for some reason, ichigo is kinda weak in the hueco mundo arc because when the captains arrived to save them, they owned their respective opponents

Isn't this series with Ichigo as the lead ? So I wouldn't doubt who is better going along the storyline cause I am sure the mangaka will give him an underdog-with-an-overkill kinda feel in desperate situations.
