I'm sure there are lots of other (straight) guys out there that can appriciate some good yaoi ^^
I'm kinda surprised that you admitted it, that's awesome 😀 Although, I'm sure your last sentence is true, most of them wouldn't probably admit it ^_^'''

And I can't believe this whole thing was started because guys were saying women don't read hentai. I mean c'mon do romance novels say anything guys? Those are pretty dirty and women read them, so why can't women read hentai.
My god, what romance novels were you reading? 😲 😕
I've read a couple myself, but there was nothing terribly explicit sounding, and if there was, it was more romantic than anything, nothing arousing; I liked that a lot about them 😃
Personally, I won't read hentai cuz there's enough ecchi-ness and fan service-ness in manga that isn't hentai T.T 🤢 😐 {Like in Code Geass, the DVD covers and pictures are all waay too fan serviced-ed out and its gets annoying, 'specially since the anime isn't even like that 'cept one Picture Book thingy) And I don't want to read somethin' with a chick with impossibly large hips and breasts cuz it annoys me >.>...Totally unrealistic 😔 Too unrealistic for me to even consider reading 😀
I think the real perverts come out here >.>...Jk, jk, jk 😛 😁

i dont really care im very comfortable with heterosexuality i wouldnt mind cracking open a yaoi its just its kinda boring yes if you count out the excessive rape in some but most of the time the only reason i would read a hentai or yuri would be to get off
romance novels: im a guy and i love them ya you can call it feminine or abstract but when it comes down to it i just like romance though i have many feministic qualities im also comfortable with my masculinity im sure they're alot of other guys who feel the same

cant say I, the male me, really enjoy any yaoi. i did read one by accident once, b/c i thought it was a str8 doujin(all the damn shoujo men and women looked to similar). it was def something id never seen before, but then again nothing i really felt like looking for again either

Actually, I do read hentai from time to time. And how surprising, there are quite a few hentai titles which are way better than shoujo smut.
Why? Because they cut through the bland storytelling and just get down to the sex. In plenty of shoujo smut, the sexual tension is not there and not to mention the really stereotypical characters. Plus a really embarrassing story which has enough holes to be seen through by an elementary school kid.
I much prefer my sex to be sensual, hot and sizzling. And with variety! 😀
(Oh and I used to read plenty of yaoi but they all got boring. Most of the scanlated stuff just has very little story.)

Hmm.. I think those old ones. They can be pretty graphic (in words). Have you ever read any from Johanna Lindsay? Her works are pretty erotic but funny as well. When I said romance novels, it's those kinds. Not the ones like Sweet Dreams or Sweet Valley High.

I've also been accused of not outgrowing my fascination with cartoons, but I love the drawn representation of the world. It lends a particular atmosphere that is often lacking in real life.
That's absolutely right! It's why I read manga, too... I always find it difficult to point out exactly what that "particular atmosphere" is, but I think it's the joy of seeing life interpreted in new and interesting ways. Art makes us view life with renewed interest... Well, that's my opinion, anyway. Human faces, when drawn with an artist's hand, reveal fascinating secrets that real faces often manage to hide...

I've always had a healthy interest in porn, but find that most women find the subject shocking. Perhaps it is social conditioning. If so, how did we, the women who enjoy hentai and porn, break it?
Yeah, I've wondered about that. It's obvious that social conditioning discourages women from being honest with themselves about their desires, but for some reason there are always a few stubborn women (like you and me, I guess!) who don't fall for the whole women-are-dainty-and-pure thing. We certainly aren't sex-obsessed demons, but we aren't pure, either... We're just ordinary people with ordinary desires! Why women have to be placed apart from sexual discourse is something I don't understand.
After all, if the world expects us to have sex, it should also be all right for us to talk about it and to enjoy doing it. These ideas about feminine purity and frigidity seem pointless. Elsewhere (somewhere above this comment) it was said that I shouldn't take such remarks seriously, but I'm afraid that these casual and/or joking remarks are just symptoms of a greater misunderstanding about women. That's why I spoke up; I wouldn't have bothered, otherwise.
It's really odd, how society has completely polar opposite ideas about women... On the one hand, they're treated as if they're pure, and on the other hand, they're treated as sexual objects. These extreme misinterpretations seem bizarre to me.
Men are also misinterpreted by society -- they, too, are forced to adopt gender roles that not all men are comfortable with. The ideal of the "working man" and the ideal of the "stoic father," as well as the concept of sexual prowess being a token of masculinity. It's weird that a guy who has sex with a lot of women is often considered more masculine than a guy who has sex with just a few women. Why? I don't think it's fair or rational. Similarly, a guy who can physically dominate over other people is often considered manlier. This is also weird, considering that many perfectly respectable men are gentle at heart. They shouldn't be forced to "act tough" just because they need to get a manly reputation. What the hell...
I think that one of the main challenges of life is trying to reconcile completely opposite ideas about gender. People actually try to live up to ideas that are contradictory; no wonder they're stressed out! A woman must be "pure" but must also be "attractive" -- a man must be "aggressive" but must also be a "protector".
Argh, gender roles in general make me want to pull my hair out.
The rift between reality and ideology is still a wide one. It would be pleasant if this rift were to narrow, and if people's ideas about themselves were to become more realistic. Maybe one day, we'll view ourselves as individuals, rather than as sets of labels. That's all I can hope for. 🙂

Oh okay. I wasn't talking about Sweet Valley High; I was talking about ones from Janet Evanovich and Fern Michaels. I've read a couple and they weren't erotic at all ^_^'''

Yes, right! Spot on, gal! 😀
Ooh and some of those old romance stories were REALLY erotic. I remember reading them in Grade 3 or 4. Really forbidden literature, man! 😛 There was what? Rape, Incest, Elopement and all sorta really "interesting" topics.

Talk about it! Some of that stuff qualifies as soft porn. I remember being a widdle twelve-year-old and discovering The Clan of the Cave Bear... I was like, "Wtf is going on?" Eventually, that changed to, "Damn, that's hot!" And then to, "I need to get me some girls."
😀
Elle, stop lurking and join in! The water's nice!
And I have absolutely no ulterior motives when I invite ladies to join me in my -- er, discussions. No ulterior motives at all!

haha, /sure/ you don't have ulterior motives! =P
You know what's funnier though? I was talking on the phone with a friend and she decided to join just 'cause of this topic! laughs

I decided to join for the moral discussion that might be happening if you were actually being serious...maybe...
P.S. Everyone has an ulterior motive

(By the way, I read Clan of the Cave Bear back then too. =P haha, almost same reaction except it was more of ending with "Damn! I need to get me some hot guys!" haha)
