is One Piece going to end soon?

One thing I should point out is he may have just meant half-way through the story. Who knows how many chapters that could mean.

Like others have said, Oda has said it's halfway done. He has it all planned out, so expect it to take quite a while longer. Honestly, I love this series and I will follow it and finish it no matter how long Oda takes.

One Piece isn't ~600 chapters of boring crap - it's ~600 chapters of pure shounen awesomeness.
I'm certain you won't regret picking it up.
Yea, as someone else has noted, One Piece is great because it's one of the few manga that seems as it gets older it just continues on getting better or at least staying the same quality level. My favorite Arc in the series
Water 7/Enies Lobby Arc where they rescued Robin and battled CP9 wasn't even until over 300 or so chapters into the manga.
As someone stated before, it just keeps on hooking you right back it. It's honestly around the half way point like many people have said and I was like others in not wanting to pick it up because it's so long, heck it's the main reason why I don't read Berserk but with One Piece I can honestly say i don't regret picking it up at all.

i think it's merely halfway. when they were heading for the new world i thought it was going to end soon but now the are so many new characters introduced and old characters that have yet to make an appearance. it could easily go on for 5 more years.
Halfway does not mean five years.
Halfway means another 20 years. And yes, I believe Oda did say they were 'halfway' a year or so back. If he only expected another 5 years, he would/should have said it was 80% complete.
One piece has not been going on for 20 years. Only 13 😉 So another 13 years.

plans change
ideas change
you can say one thing today
and be bancrupt the next day
it will end exactly when oda and to some degree Jump agrees to end it

Seeing how successful he is, his words might be truth. His manga is extremely popular, I don't think Jump will ax OP anytime soon, if at all.

They're only halfway round the world people. It will only end early if the
timeskip fails majorly, and considering the tiny amount of fail One Piece has contained so far, it's unlikely. At some point Oda became one of the best storytellers in any ongoing manga, I can't see that changing, and if he was going to run out of ideas he would have done by now. All our kids will be reading it by the time it finishes, heh.
If you want a manga that will still be going when you're 70 you should try reading Berserk..

not a bad thing.
but Berserk is equally epic...
As many before me have said, it really shouldn't matter how long One Piece is, because every chapter is just something more epic for us to spaz about. I have never regretted reading One Piece and on the off chance that it changes and goes downhill I still won't regret it because of all the awesomeness it has provided up until now.
