How much of a "copy" does an adaptation need to be from the original?

One thing I've always wondered is if the adaptation is exactly the same as the original, what was the point of adapting it?...

It should be a little bit original. Like some little gag scenes or scenes where you can see a character´s personality more (like some habits)

Not like in the Beelzebub anime were they made the smart Furuichi who could have easiliy gone to a very good High School having 59 points in grade school tests

some originaity or just a completely different story all together, kuroshitsuji season 2 was awesome, absoluetly outside fo teh manga scope, but it was so engagging. But when it comes to only copying certain part, I feel like it kind of ruins teh original storyline.

I don't use "bad" words, I use SENTENCE ENHANCERS.

I like a bit of originality myself. Indeed it needn't follow the original plot exactly because that's kinda pointless but I dislike it when they steer completely off track and go making up shit with anime only characters.
I hate those anime only characters.

Strange, I've always found it weird if an adaptation strays away from the source material, since generally speaking, this results in that adapted series sucking more (e.g., filler episodes and characters). I've always thought that a good adaptation was essentially the same thing but in a different form, with nothing either added, taken away or replaced.

Oooooh... I like your thinking!!

Sometimes, a mangaka can give a(n) character/arc/plot more development in the anime compared to what was given the manga form (i.e. Death Note's L was fleshed out better in the anime compared to the manga).

It doesn't matter to me. I only watch adaptions if a really good studio/a studio that I like is doing the adaption.

Original anime usually turn out well, but I hate adaptations with a vengeance.

I can't deal with the compression of what usually is an awesome original.

The thing about adaptations is that I already love the original (or I wouldn't be watching it) so I dislike it getting screwed with. Mind you, changes can be done well. Just not too many, for the sake of the little person inside me going, "They changed that, and that, and that..." haha I don't mind a little interpretation, but the important things should remain the same.

I think that anime adaptions can have a bit of creativity, but not too much. I dislike it when they change what I love about a manga, or key parts of the story or character's backgrounds.

In my mind a good anime adaption would be something like Natsume Yuujinchou's
Whereas a bad one would be Kuroshitsuji's

I dislike it when the story of the manga is changed drastically in the anime.

Well, they don't need to follow anything from original manga if the anime is good. I like alternative stories aside from the original one, they make good variations. And me watching the exact same story for what i have read... snore
that's a reason why i don't watch anime often.

Is all oh so very relative and should be judged on an case to case basis. If something is good its good. You should not mess with what's good. But if an adaptation can make things better then maybe it should. The Kure-nai anime was better then what I've seen from the manga. The Monster anime is almost frame by frame like the original manga. Both are good but they are "adapted" to different degrees. An adaptation can assuredly equally easily destroy what once was good. And who here likes fillers?

I don't really get the point of adaptation if the adapted version is just a duplication the original. I think it's much more interesting to see what can be built upon the base material.

A very good example is Blue Drop. Tenshitachi no gikyoku takes place 1000 (!) years before the original story, and it's indeed excellent. The original manga is also very good, but its short poetic/sexy storytelling would probably not have been as good as an anime.
