Ummm generally when a serie is almost out. I hate waiting ages for releases =)
But if a serie is very well know or from a mangaka i really like, only few volumes out are ok.
Lucky how you got the beta key. It looks really promising, will be looking forward to it too.=D

Yup the SC 2 beta is a lot of fun to play, some strategies are just a bit to good and have no counters that doesn't force you into overcommitting in static defence.

I don't read series by releases, but by when I discover them; and how much they interest me. If a series starts off new and I like it; I read it. When a series has 5 chapters out and I like it; I'll read it. When a series is long complete and I like it; I'll read it.
It's that simple.

After being burned a few times, now I only start a series when it's complete, at least in Japan. I've picked up a few series thinking they were almost complete, only for the author to go on hiatus, or drag the series out more, etc.

I think that there's one answer missing - anytime 😀 Because I don't care how many chapters/volumes are out, if I like the summary and see that other ppl like the series - why just don't start to read it,,,?

Nowadays I would start the manga series after watching episodes of the anime; however, I would read "when a few chapters are out".

but to one person you may be the world."

Whenever I hear about a series/decide I want to read it/get around to it, it has nothing to do with how many chapters or volumes it has out (unless no one is doing it of course).

If a manga seems really good I might start reading after a few chapters, but I mostly stick to completed series. I hate it when I get into a series only to have it dropped or go on hiatus cough HxH. cough

If you look at the previous poll results optimistically, you could say that 48% are cowards while 51% actually try to do something.

Cowards, you say.....Running away is better than waiting like an idiot for someone to come help you, whether it's the cops or whoever. If "ditch your friends" was the majority, you could worry; but I'd say it's good that most people are sensible and know they aren't Ichigo or a Bruce Willis character or something.
I'd fight if I have to, but my teacher says to run if possible, so who am I to argue? Besides, if most of my friends can't fight, that leaves me trying to protect them against multiple attackers. I'm not that good.

Seconding this. Sometimes I try to wait 'till there's more chapters, but usually I can't resist. ^^;

but I did feel a little resemblance to the Warcraft III's starcraft bonus map graphics. But I did love the zerg's building/unit production animations... and the new units, they're awesome, and yes, I'm definitely buying it... although I'm just after the campaign, coz' I prefer the first Starcraft's gameplay better (personal tastes) xD

When I come across a series that looks appealing, I decide then, do I start reading it now and bemoan the length of time until the next chapter's release? Or do I wait until it is done and then read it. The ones in the 2nd category are put into my wish list. When the series finishes, I download the whole bunch and read it. Often a wish list series is one I have read a volume or 2 that isn't complete and I decide to wait until the series is completed before I read it, this time from beginning to end (i.e., anything done by Wingtip Cafe).
Some series works for reading a chapter at a time. Some don't.
Gokusen is one that frustrates me in this respect. It comes off as a better series when read a volume at a time rather than in trickles. Team Medical Dragon is an example of one that when you read a chapter at a time, you forget how the people are interconnected.
For Ice Demon Tale, I'll take any chapters I can get.
Thus, my wish list is over 200 titles.
