if you are just trying out new manga and start reading, than somewhere along the pages you just totally lose interest, put it down and move on to the next ones.

gimme ur reasons why you drop a series from the get go?

i know if i see the pen inc is too softly drawn, DROP

• weird-ass art like in Nocturne
• the eyes are too big and cute looking

I dont dropped reading cause it turns me off but many things

such as ~ horribly drawn
retarded mains
horribly thoughted main
random jumps in the story god all those naruto fillers in the anime
stupid random attack skills that look horrindiusly and unthoughtfully made
that last one was a doezy well as i said i havent yet dropped a reading just because of that

Sorry, but my heart's too fragile to take tragic stories. I'm lame that way.

When I'm on the over 9000th volume and the climax is no where in sight, and the "filler" isn't even interesting, when there isn't any actual progress. I get so annoyed I don't feel like continuing, especially when I get attached to it or it's ongoing.

Example: No Bra (dropped @ volume 3),
My Barbaric Girlfriend (dropped @ volume 6),
Futari Ecchi (dropped @ chapter 18).

I dropped Chobits because it was way too depressing for me...other than that, I will drop a manga if I feel like I have read it before (the same characters, problems, etc.).

*I can't take any more of the "I will pick the strange tsundere girl over my sweet and loving childhood friend" mangas.

orpheus i totally agree there are so many of those nowadays that easily through aside the bonds of a childhood friend for someone they just meet or something similar

ESPECIALLY the ones where the childhood friend is BEYOND cute and caring and sweet and can cook practically your perfect girlfriend >.>....;;;; why people why

some of them become to the point where the friend becomes totally depressed there was a recent anime i watched i cant recall the name off the top of my head but it was where a "non-blood" related sister moved away for quite a couple years and comes back and gets the guy while the childhood friend whos been with him all this time gets left behind in that instant.

Before I've invested very much time into a series, I will drop a manga if:

1. The first few chapters are so boring or confusing I don't want to finish reading them.

Enough said. A manga that's lame in chapter one will rarely (if ever) turn into Shakespeare a few volumes down the road. The best we can usually hope for is for it to become less lame. Why waste your time on that?

2. I start noticing the cliches.

LOTS of series use them, but if I actually begin noticing them, then that means they are being used in a lazy enough way that they are distracting me from the storyline.

3. The characters are unlikeable.

This goes without saying. A girl so "purehearted" and naive she might as well have grown up in a cave? No thank you. Dark haired cookie-cutter bishonen with a legion of fan girls? Hell no. Simple-minded weakling determined to become the best [fill in the blank] ever? Stop yourself. Unattractive loser who suddenly finds himself being chased by an assortment of tusnderes, lolitas, and balloon-breasted babes? NO.

If I've already been reading the manga for a while, it has to completely disgust me before I'm able to drop it. I have to feel totally certain that I'll never be able to enjoy the manga the way I once did before I feel like I can walk away from it.

Shojo.

I always get this feeling that shojo plots are all the same. The art is also more often than not sketchy at best. But I guess that's what you get for being a guy?

I generally like to give it a shot first, but if I find I'm clicking and skimming the words and finding it a chore to read, then I know it hasn't captured my interest and it's clearly not worth my time.

And if I think it has potentinal, and 5 chapters in it's starting to bore me, then no. That's what happened with Bakuman. It was just so pointless in my opinion. Didn't take me at all. Which is a shame really. The art was good.

the first thing is the art if it is not decent i just say fuck it and im done, im a bastard about this. After that if it is really cliche, i read a lot of shojo, so when a guy meets a hot girl that is clumsy or the necrotic club president, i die a little on the inside. Damn im a guy lol and like this stuff, but yea bad art and cliches kill me.

Reasons I've automatically dropped manga

-Really big eyes. Like Fruits Basket eyes. They make me feel sick to look at.
-Bad character designs
-The characters seem like Mary-Sues from the start.
-It turns out to be basically hentai with a creepy-looking main character
-The art looks like it was done in ballpoint pen, despite the fact that the mangaka has been drawing for like 30 years
-The first chapter confuses me either by refusing to explain what's going on in the story at all or with unclear art
