While I would love to do a job that I enjoy, I would prefer to get something stable. Maybe later on, after establishing myself more solidly, I would switch over to a job that I enjoy. But if I have a stable job at least I can enjoy myself more outside of work.

I only have one life. If I'm going to die anyway, might as well aim to do what I like and take risks. ^^

Given those two options, I'd choose "boring but stable".
If I had a "dream job" in mind, I might choose differently, but I've never had anything like that in mind. If I was only responsible for myself, again I might choose differently, but I have three kids to provide for & dreams don't fill your stomach.
Also...just because you start out in the "boring but stable" job doesn't mean you have to be stuck with it the rest of your life. You can still work towards your "dream job" (for most jobs) during your own time (i.e. take classes part time, online, etc. or just work independently), and then if an opportunity comes up, grab it. 😃

Dream, but unstable job.
Considering how much money my parents are paying for my current high school and how much money they are probably going to have to pay for my future university (if I get in any) I feel it will be selfish if I waste the opportunities I'm being given and don't pursue what I want...

Boring but stable for me.
As for the reason...I'm a coward, pure and simple. I do like living on the edge, but I'm too scared to do so. And after my parents retire and grow older, I might have to support them financially. How can I do that if I don't have a proper, well-paying job?
It'd be great to do a job I like - but hey, you can't hope to enjoy everything in life!

Well it's not about choosing between boring but stable job or unstable but a job you love.
In my opinion even each dream jobs have their flaws, for example currently im working the job i like and i aim for when im still at the university, which is an external auditor and now im an auditor.
I dont know why i always loves number and cracking up mystery, which can be said is the two element you had as an auditor, hence i dream to be an auditor.
And now i've worked as one i started to see the flaws in my job, the one you would only know by doing the job itselfs, so what i'm trying to say is that all job can be your dream job all you need to do is to learn to like it or at least bear with it, cause even your dream job can be a nightmare also.
Need a loving and lovely tsundere wife, anyone interested? >.<
On second thought yandere would also be fine.... O.O

Here's the Purpose of Life thread.
If your life is just about live and die, press 1.
If you want to enjoy it, press 2.
Let's see it from a different perspective.
If you have the ability and dedication to pursue your dream, go for it. You will get high enough to avoid all those unexpected events like depression.
If you don't, definitely choose the stable job.
All this is based on the idea that choice 1 is actually "stable". Heck, how can you be sure about it?
What are those two last lines in "The Road not Taken" again? Nah, it doesn't matter. Despite of all the talk, I choose number 2. My dream is only to have enough money for books and world famous food dishes. 🤣

Since in the situation I'm still studying, I will finish my studies and try to pursue my dream job that related to my field of studies.
So,my choice is dream but unstable job.
Different people has different situation.
Dream job, although I don't really have one.
It's not like you are forever unemployed after you get fired.

Stability is a joke.
Any job that you work, where you're underneath someone else, your livelihood is on the line regardless of how much effort/work you put in. A corporation could go under, have mass layoffs, or your boss could decide you didn't kiss his ass enough.
The easiest path to success is one that is paved by something you love to do. If you love to do it, you'll produce better work (and more work.) If you hate it, there's a solid chance it'll be noticed.
Perhaps I'm misunderstanding the definition of 'dream job' and 'stable job' as per the original post. I assumed that dream job meant the job we would love to do... Like wanting to be an astronaut or pilot as a kid. Stable job I take to mean... pencil-pusher at a fortune 500 company.
The only reason a dream job should stay in someone's dreams is if they're not willing to put forth the effort to pull it into reality. Much harder to do, I admit, if you go and have kids first.

Well said! I totally agree. I’ll summarize the rest:
Would you prefer to kick ass or kiss ass? (either way you can't predict the future)
If you love it you won’t leave it, try, you might achieve it, because people do best what they like to do. If you have kids it's not just about you.

A wise one though. I agree with everything you said.
thanks ^^
How about boring and unstable?
Seems like that's what's been happening lately.
I'd rather go for the exciting. I'm on an art path at the moment so I'm doomed to be pretty broke and unstable for most of my life, if not all.

dream job but unstable because i dont want to be in a job where i would feel like killing myself or killing my boss, or at least beating the shit out of him.
