So we're in the midst of a recession. Global warming is apparently upon us. The end of the world is in 2012. Basically, we're screwed~!! D:

Anyways, ... where was I going with this...?

Ohh, right~

I know we have a job thread, but right now I'm asking how do you look for jobs (when you're unemployed). Like, what kinda stuff do you do to obtain one. o.o I'm sure there are different ways!! And besides having a "real job", what other income sources do you have? Like, tutoring people or something~ Or just having money aside as back-up works too.

Unleash your creativeness!

Yeah I got a part time job that I do on weekends as I continue with the education system during the week.

I've also got a job in school where I guard the entrance so kids can't go roaming around in school during lunch.

Stuff like that to earn on the side.

For extra money I sell stuff.
I also have money saved away just in case.

As for finding a job I just network with people and search the job ads.

Everyone older and wiser than me has told me that networking is the way to go. So far I've only applied to positions that have standard application/interview procedures, but I'm sure the more scarce those positions become, it will help to know people who can get you a foot in the door.

other income sources:

I buy things for people online, and they pay me a higher amount upfront. I keep the change 😎 (sometimes I don't get why they're too lazy to use their own cards.)
I commission artworks
I design pamphlets
I commission cosplay
I also print documents for people.
I sell my old clothing and (new) avon products. O_O;

To be frank I have never worked an honest days wages in my entire life.
At the moment my main source of income is from a company that is paying the difference for my international fees (that is about £9000 a year).

Next up is renting my house to an middle aged couple during the majority of the year for £800 a month. That way as long as I spend less than £600 a month on food and supplies then I will get out of University without any debts.

In High school I also made money selling gold on world of warcraft and other online games, I earned around £6000 over the course of selling such things during a 5 year duration, until of course I stopped playing those games.

When I was a around 12 I use to sell and trade Magic the Gathering card, I had a collector's folder and a price tag gun and everything. Didn't make much money from it but I definitely enjoyed opening booster packs at like £1 and then selling one of the cards in them for £10 to the shop the next day.

Gambling! Not really. I do all kind of odd jobs I'm offered, like shoveling snow for neighbors.

I've tutored a few cousins in math, and done odd jobs (like painting for my aunt's business)

I've yet to get my first job, but I do all of the things that they are supposed to like but to no avail. Apply with a good resume/ cover letter that pertains to the position, follow it up with a call, if i get the interview dress appropriate for the workplace, follow that up with a thank you note, and all that jazz.

Currently I'm employed full time by the DNB, which is the dutch central bank.
I got it by asking around people I know through my parents if they knew of anything.
It's simple work, but it's meaningfull and pays a nice sum for someone my age. (just working for one week full time gives me enough income to pay for everything for a month.)

Before that I did some freelance work as a mystery shopper. which was fun and simple but didn't pay much.
I also catered a few parties for friends of my parents.
