I do have a boyfriend and he knows i like anime but doesnt know i read manga its my little secret. He caught me once but he doesnt know i read it as a much as i do (like everyday). None of my friends know i like except for my close ones its not really keepin it a secret its just i hang with the "cool crowd" and none of them would relate
Why keep manga a secret, most anime are adapted from manga, and manga is comics?
😕I dun't get it...
I know he wouldnt break up with me or anything its just he likes to make fun of me alot in a playful way and i dont wanna give him any ammunition for his jokes but i think he knows already but i dont think he knows its to extent that it is
😐

Ah... I see... I imagine it is the same with my father and the fact that he finds my attraction to BL and yaoi stupid and corrupt (haha)

あたしは腐女子です。少女漫画、たくさん読んでください。
I'm single right now, but if I wasn't then she'd know for sure. It's my #1 hobby, why would I hide it?
someone who doesn't have any single clue of what 'manga' means
is someone i'll never be considered as a boyfriend

Mine knows about it. There's no way he wouldn't know because my room is a manga jungle. He can't walk anywhere without tripping over a pile of josei comics. But he seems more worried about my pastry-hunting obsession rather than my love of manga these days.

Yes, he knows, and has no problem with it.
Though the BL section on my shelf seems to embarrass him. 🤣

I discovered manga a couple of years ago, and introduced my wife to it.
Turns out she was reading manga (sailormoon, ranma1/2, etc) during her teenager years, so she knew about it well before me. I showed her some new ones (Koukou Debut, Nodame Cantabile), and she was re-hooked. Now it's a common topic of conversation.

Yes he knows that I read manga. we actually have the same hobby, just a little difference in taste. He prefers stuff like berserk while I usually go for stuff that is less violent. so reading manga was never a problem between us, except for the fact that he teases me and tells me I live in a pink/girlish bubble 🤣 cause of all the romance
oh and I ignore his hentai and he ignores my BL

i will hide it if i read marvel superheroes.
for respectable media with wide theme and complexity, why hide?
grammar mistake is intentional, grammar nazis need their entertainment.

she probably suspects, but it's not like i either hide or brag about my interest
😔 kind of in a predicament because i don't like to hide things in a relationship, but not everyone is as open to things as i am...
in fact one of my best friend recently ceased all contact with me and my watching anime and reading manga was part of the problems i evidently have, even though this friend is also upset that i do not enjoy media such as "south park" or fascination with genre of media along the lines of "American Psycho, Good-fellas, The Social Network, Black Swan" T_T

Marvel teaches a lot of important themes also, i think it's unfair to call Western comics not respectable and narrow in diversity and target audiences (@yuno19 sorry didn't mean to single you out specifically - but it is the general attitude i'm sensing in the thread so far)
i think if uall were to read around in Western comics for things like popular webcomics you will find they are just as diverse as manga, if not more so (the later having been inspired by the former) - even with popular selling Western comic companies, just because they sell the best does not mean that is the only variety of genres available
