I can't help but compare between the two every time I read it. Aren't the plots and the characters just a bit too much alike? Like how the main girl characters are ungirly and smart, and the main guy character is quiet but also smart and attractive. Or is it just me being paranoid? For those of you who've read both- which one do you think is better?
I read Special A first, so I think it's more original. But who knows? If it's nothing more than a coincidence, than maybe I'm being too critical. ... seriously, though. The similarities are really getting on my nerves. ... just a bit.

I haven't read enough of kaichou wa maid-sama to form an opinion of that yet. I'll get back to you. =)

Yeah.
It does remind me a tad of SA,
In terms of romance at least~

Hmm... I liked kaichou wa maid-sama more at first because it was interesting the beginning, but after so many chapters you can only be so defiant to like someone... But now, I guess I like SA better because instead of defiant, she's just dense. I dunno, I guess I like dense over defiant. In terms of plot... they are pretty similar, but I have a feeling kaichou wa maid-sama is doing to take a deeper darker route than SA did. I think Usui has some bitter secrets...

i read special A first as well.. and i agree, usui and kei are very similar. too similar. and now that i think about it, so are misaki and hikari
i dont know, i kind of like this better than Special a,
S.A was my favorite manga for a while, and i was going crazy waiting for the last 3 chapters XD (is it me, or did the characters REALLY change in the earlier chapters. go compare the first chapters with the last! im not crazy right?)
the plots of these two are not THAT similar. but yeh, character personalities. . . for a while i thought they were both made by the same mangaka. XD
they are both amazing manga.
thats all im going to say

hmm.... well i can see the similarities, but i find that they are very common shoujo similarities =/
good-looking guys = very common for shoujo romances (good eye-candy seems mandatory as of late)
nice guys = not as common as the jerks often seen in smut, but still common enough.
smart/tomboyish girls = one of the two biggest girl character molds. when the revolves around a guy trying to break through a girl in denial (as oppose to a weak girl clinging to a supportive guy, for example), a smart tomboyish girl is needed
As for which i like better, i think i like Kaichou wa maid-sama. I read SA first but it always went too long without actually progressing the story =/ in Kaichou wa maidsama the story was still long, but there was always a lot of opportunity or hinting at a development, and some very funny sexual tension XD
Edit: Actually, after re-reading Kaichou wa Maidsama, i have to say a lot of the minor details are similar o.0
for example... both girls suck at cooking and both have make near-rock hard circular balls that were supposed to be onigiri

Haha, it does seem similar. Especially with the lead couple.
But they have their own unique points, too.

Exactly, right? That's what I was thinking. You can't get more similar than those hard onigiris. hahaa

if kaichou wasn't that similar to SA, then it wouldn't be number two on the recommendations list for kaichou.[but then again, the recs are all based on how many user lists have those mangas]
they are alike at some points, but like omgshanice said, they each have unique points.
*sorry to be a party pooper, but i really don't like any of the both.i loved both at the beginning.but it's just starting to go donwhill...

Hmm... If you are going to compare SA with Kaichou wa Maid-sama, another manga that I would add with very similar feel and characters is Venus Capriccio.

I agree, Kwms is a lot like Special A- Even Misaki stinks at cooking, just like special a- but still, even with them very closely related, I liked both speical a and kwms

I don't think it is, well, not by that much really. Though I do prefer KWMS. Special A had an incredibly dense (and stupid) heroine in my opinion. The male lead didn't help much to make me like the manga either.
I like Misaki and Usui though, which is why I don't consider KWMS like Special A.

I never really thought about comparing them before...
Though they may have parts that are similar (mentioned above), I still think both are worth reading and different enough to be enjoyable.

I never think those two are comparable. The heroine in special A is way too dense and stupid, not to mention Kei in Special A seems almost inhuman. Kaichou wa maid sama is more realistic, and I like Misaki better because she has things she wants to protect, instead of the heroine in Special A just wanting to beat Kei so she made her parents enroll her in the same school for her own selfish reasons.

I've never thought to compare those two before but though they have some similarites as do all shoujo mangas, I don't think they are too much alike.
I think [m]Kaichou Wa Maid Sama[/m] has better art than Special A and the plot is a bit more realistic. Also Misaki is just a better character though she's strong and not inhumanly strong, she has her cute sides and is sillier than Hikari who's a bit annoying at times.
Well thats my opinion on the whole matter
