Description

Her whole life, Hikari Hanazono has been consumed with the desire to win against her school rival, Kei Takishima--at anything. He always comes out on top no matter what he does, and Hikari is determined to do whatever it takes to beat this guy!
At age 6 Hikari lost to Kei in an impromptu wrestling match. Now, at 15, Hikari joins "Special A," a group of the top seven students at a private academy, for the opportunity to trounce the guy who made her suffer her first defeat.

I love reading books, and getting engrossed in stories. I've read enough mangas that I can pretty easily predict what will happen, and yet, every chapter, there was some little twist that I didn't completely expect. Although the general plot is much like that of other manga's like it, this story gave me so much joy.
This is the first manga to make be laugh so much, and the first manga to make me cry at all. In the final few chapters, I couldn't help crying and smiling at the same time, and this is the first manga where the last chapter truly felt like the end of the story.
The heroine is sorta the typical idiotic shojo idiot girl, and yet, she's not. There's depth to the story, and all the characters have a full embodiment and have three dimensionals to their personalities, instead of just one dimensional background characters.
I'm crying and smiling just thinking about it. I just want to continue living in this happiness produced from this beautiful story.

This manga seamlessly blends comedy and romance together. It's sweet, pure fun. You can tell through his actions that Kei really cherishes Hikari. He loves teasing her just the right way. Hehe. However, my favourite character after Kei is Ryuu. He's such a sweetie with the animals, Jun and Megumi. He's the perfect guy. *__*
This manga is really long but I really wouldn't mind a sequel just to see how the characters are doing. In short, I really recommend this manga! It really left me wanting more.

i have only got to read up to number 11 but i like this manga yeah its kinda stupid but funny to me it gives me a good laugh when i have nothing else (has a very boring life) in a way this kinda reminds me of absolute boyfriend but different, eveyone has there own opinion but thats the way this world is supposed to be. this is one of my faves the other is vampire knight and yes its short and has a bittersweet ending i would recommend absolute boyfriend for alot of laughs

Special A starts off great (seemingly fiery heroine) then goes downhill. Although Hikari is portrayed as a tough student, beyond the first chapters she is sweet, dense, and makes hypocritical decisions (even though she's supposed to be smart). There's little character and relationship development. If there's one step forward, the characters refute it later. The plot drags and repeats itself, and it's a shame that these cute characters hardly get anywhere.
I was really relieved when I got to chapter 99. The only thing I wanted by the end was actual character/relationship development, which didn't happen. It's not a manga that I would recommend.

It wasn't a waste of time to me because I enjoyed it.
I laughed at the silly things they did,
enjoyed reading about each of the characters,
and felt sad that it ended.
Well, people do have different preferences.

for those guys out there who are into this manga..sorry but not really my type.it's absolutely pointless and i hate how the guy can be so perfect and how the girl can be so stupid..as i said it's pointless..don't understand why a lot of people like this though..

Don't know why this manga's so famous. There're just challenges and challenges between the two main characters. Their love seems to play a minor part in the plot and it keeps draging. <yawn> What's so special about it?

Ok reading some of your guys' comments I figured a lot of you didn't like it. I, however thought that it was a really good manga and had a unique plot  I do think that the manga could be shorter (even though I'd be sad when it ended so early) and that the anime should be longer (IDK what they would add to make it longer but I felt it was too short)

| that one chapter where Hikari starts sneaking around helping another guy seriously pissed me off. how can she be so unbelievable stupid? she was even considering keeping her promise to "grant his wish" even if he asked her to break up with her boyfriend. how touching that she loves her boy friend so much that shes willing to dump him just to keep a promise she made with a guy she just met. i hate women like her, her boyfriend should be more important to her than the friend.... |

I just lost interest half way through...The characters just remained static. I mean there was hardly any development for the main couple for about 50 chapters. And I didn't really care for the side characters. It was cute and funny. 'Was' being the key word. I'm just glad it finally ended.
