I just saw it.
It was Adorable! Not to mention pretty funny. Lisa really reminded me of my mom.
I would say its about the level of Whisper of the Heart. Its a kid movie though, so it lacks the... layers? of all his other movies, but it makes up for it in sheer cuteness.

HAAAAAAM!!!!
That was so adorable.
It was really empty in the theater though.

Definitely adorable. A "very loose interpretation of the little mermaid" is a good description for it. I agree that it's similar to Whisper in the Heart.
And I think it has the best movie credits of any children's movie I've ever seen. =)
I don't know whether or not I'll buy it, but it was worth seeing. =)
If you've ever thought or said "Nice Guys finish last" and really meant it, then you should probably read this LJ post by DivaLion. It's incredibly insightful whether you're male or female.

Well, through a series of unforseen events I ended up going today instead. It was really adorable. As usual, the imagery was beyond amazing. It felt warm and comfortable without being saccharine. It felt, in fact, like a dream. The number-one thing I've always loved about Miyazaki's movies is how much they feel like the sort of dreams I had as a child. This one was one of the most dreamlike of them all, second only to Spirited Away.
That said, it definitely isn't his best or even his second-best. Although it sounds a little too harsh to say it, it's probably his worst. Most of Miyazaki's movies rely on imagery and feel rather than plot, but the plot here was so thin as to be practically nonexistent. It's a kids' movie. Just don't go into it looking for anything other than that.
Also, while I still really regret not seeing his other movies in theaters when I could have, I was reminded of why I didn't go out to see them. I hate movie theaters. They're smelly and dirty and there's always some obnoxious people talking and talking and talking. There were three scruffy adult women sitting right behind me laughing like maniacs and cursing and making perverted comments about Ponyo really loudly. My little sister was right there and it made me sick how people could go on like that in a theater surrounded by not only people who want to watch a movie in peace but lots of little kids. I don't know why I waited until twenty minutes before the end of the movie to get up and move a row down. (The theater was almost empty, anyway.)
Cute Ponyo is cute. >___<; hugs

I'll go to see it if its released theatrically anywhere relatively near me in Ireland. I know a particular cinema has screened Howl's Moving Castle before, so here's hoping...

i thought it was fantastic~ i love how he always incorporates his love of nature (and disgust at our destroying it) into his films~
and yes, i have fallen in love with Fujimoto~~
but did the ending music kinda sound like the theme from My Neighbor Totoro to anyone else? i did go to the movies kind of late so maybe i was just out of it -- but seriously it sounded like the same theme...

I admit I watched the fansubbed version rather than the dubbed version, but I really enjoyed the movie. It didn't really grab my interest as much as his other works (Howl's Castle, Princess Mononoke, etc) but nevertheless it was quite cute. 😀

I enjoyed it, but sadly it's Miyazaki's worst work ever 😢

Very cute indeed...but....
I really have to wonder about making a movie where the main character is a fish who turns into a girl, in a country where fish is such an important/common food.
"Hey, after we watch Ponyo again, let's go have some of Ponyo's cousins for dinner...." 😲

I loved it with a passion!
If it was any sweeter, I would have diabetes.
Simple story, likable characters, and excellent animation, it stands to me as one of my favorite Miyazaki film.
I even like the American voice cast! 😀
it is time for SUPER AWESOME TIMES!! WOOT!

I loved the way Risa/Lisa drived.
It was mad awesome. 😀
In the dubbed version, Sosuke didn't have that huskyish voice that he had in the Jap version, which I thought it was really cute. D:

...I actually think Miyazaki or one of his cohorts may have done this intentionally, given their environmentalist track record.
Japan has some political problems with fishing as of late (well... not just as of late, but it's been getting progressively worse).
If not, well, I'm sure they don't mind the side effect 🤣
