Well, indigenous peoples might have been better, as there are many different type of so-called natives; since, colonization and globalization is so widespread (hell, even the Japanese have indigenous people living in Japan: see Ainu).

As for Australians, they are either indigenous or white... as Oz land was Britain's penal colony. Yes, other people live there; in which case, they would then choose which ethnicity they most identify with.

Russians are white and Asian... So, it is up to each particular Russian to determine what they are.

However, Russians mostly considered themselves European, especially the wealthy and noble who mostly spoke French and could hardly speak Russian, as Asia was consider lesser than.

In the UK 'Asian' is almost always used to refer to the Indian subcontinent, and 'Oriental' to refer to China and Japan.
Neither term is used in any derogatory way.

I don't consider myself "white" but European.
Considering myself white seems...strange, because I don't really think of peole that way(i.e. black/white/asian.)
