The Batman was crap. I'd rather watch X-Men evolution. And that one sucked too. If there was any contemporary Batman cartoon I'd watch, it'd be Batman Beyond. The last good Batman cartoon.

Tom and Jerry, The Flinstones, Teen Titans, Powepuff girls, Life with Louie , Dexter's lab...all the classics~
X-men and X-men evolution were amazing but I never liked Spiderman though.
And I agree completely to LawX, far too many cartoons are episodic <_<. That's what set Marvel-based cartoons aside- they had a plot, cheesy as it was (for some).

Blame the dumbing-down of cartoons on the mad censoring from the 90's. Take Tom and Jerry now and they'll say it promotes animal abuse, or Powerpuff girls promotes violence. So that's why producers, scared for their life of the censor-hammer fork out shows about a kid with a giant pink helmet who thinks he's a superhero and wanders around doing pointless, episoding stuff while cracking pointless, unfunny jokes every 2 frames.
What runs these days on Minimax/Fox Kids (now known as Jetix) scares the living life out of me. Cartoon network with Foster whats-his-name creeps me out completely.

...okok I'll try and stop ranting.

I guess that this is about American kids' cartoons. In my opinions, they used to be better. Or I'm just not of the age anymore, as I was in the 90s.

The way I see it, if the cartoons you liked as a kid were good. They should still have some kind of redeeming value once you're older. Take Animaniacs for example. How many jokes did that one have that flew over your head the first time around? Or X-Men. How many freaking love triangles did that thing have. Most of them didn't even register to me then. And just because a cartoon doesn't have a story doesn't not make it good. It just makes it that much more impressive when something episodic in nature is worth watching.

Most of them.

I thought this was about cartoons in general (i.e. non anime cartoons)

Kim Possible. The Proud Family. The Replacements. Dora the Explorer. (And I know Dora doesn't fit with the rest, but I really, really hate it.)

... yeah, cartoons suck these days. Well, in my opinion at least. I mean, what happened to original plots? Creative ideas? Actually making new episodes every now and then?

But then again, I'm of the opinion that almost all kid's programming has gone downhill. I mean, Cory in the House? That's just painful. And the two words that make me feel like killing someone, Hannah Montana? UGH. So it's no surprise that cartoons aren't as good, either.

Though I still think that The Weekenders are awesome, and I wouldn't mind it if they ever made some new Recess episodes.

The way I distinguish between what's good and what's not, though, is to watch a series now, at my age. If I still like a series I liked when I was little, then it was good. If I don't know, it shows it doesn't appeal to as wide of an audience. Ergo, it is not good. Simple, no?

They don't even have good cartoons anymore. They have weird action cartoons that try yo copy the concept of both Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh. o__O
Instead of cartoons, they have crappy tween shows that talk about boys and popularity and whatnot.

In the early 90s, I was watching Tom & Jerry, another show with a coyote and road runner, and lastly a show about a rich greedy duck and his family getting in funny situations....don't know the english names of these cartoons. The first two were my evening shows before having dinner. They only lasted like 10min each.

a little off-topic: For anime, i was watching DBZ, captain tsubasa, and kimagure orange road...usually on Wednesday since it was a day off for schoolers. 🙂

Wil E. Coyote and The Roadrunner cartoons. Those are classics. As simple as it gets, but I could watch a hundred episodes of those in a row. The greedy duck is Scrooge McDuck. The cartoon you were most likely watching was Duck Tales. 😃

Quote from LawX

American cartoons could be better if most of them actually had a main plot or just a plot. There is nothing that really keeps the audience wanting more since it's just episode by episode. I think the reason why Avatar did so well was because it had an overall plot.

I agree with the plot thing but there is also a problem... we see in series that has a main plot, if they make sucees they just keep adding stuff to the caldron, sometimes it just makes no sense... and sometimes kills the plot...
