If Madara is telling the truth, it may mean that Nagato memories were either incomplete or changed. Or it might mean that he might have given those eyes to Nagata ancestors, after all Madara been operating in the shadows for 200 yrs since his official "death". But on the other hand, I totally believe that Madara was the inspiration for Atsuki.

Unfortunately Konan was meant do die (or become leader of Rain village), so I wasn't surprised too much by her death and he giving this big blow to Madara wasn't surprising either. Since good guys who are secondary characters in the manga who will die usually do give huge damage to their enemies before their death, if its final one (unlike Kakashi), but never actually manage to kill the guy. It sort of manga cliche.

What I am curious about is what did Konan do with Nagato's body - Rinnegan in the last page? Did she make it impossible for Madara to get to the Rinnegan or not. I'll be very disappointed if Madara/Sasuke get Rinnegan as well.

Anyway, it kind of seems like Kishimoto wrapping up loose ends before major change in the manga. I suspect another several years gap awaits us pretty soon. 🤣

Well Pein and her were probably too busy with Akatsuki stuff to file all their village's taxes and other paperwork. These things build up quickly if not taken care of
