Hello. What are your thoughts on masturbation and porn?

I am...confused, you see. To put it mildly. I was raised in a very Catholic environment, where sexuality is taboo and sex is only for procreation and not pleasure. I know the Catholic/Christian teachings on lust and masturbation, but...foo. And it's just strange that supposedly celibate people are actually expected to teach you about sexuality.

I figured, what if you get off on manga? It doesn't harm anyone, so how can it be bad? And getting off is good. Let's face it. It feels darned good.

I'm no longer very religious now, but years of training will always cause a tiny voice inside my head to whisper you'll go to hell you'll go to hell.

So there. I just want to know your thoughts on/struggles with/arguments against/arguments for it, if you feel so inclined.

It's perfectly health as long as it doesn't become an obsession. And once a day or once every two days seem to be the average for young adult. After 28 it's more like 2-3 times a week....Even married men do it. Animals do it too.

actually, it shows that men who masterbate frequently between 13-30 have a higher chance of prostate cancer than average while men who masturbate between 50 and beyond have a lower chance of prostate cancer. So save all your seed if you want to decrease prostate cancer chance. 🤣

Frankly, I don't know what's unholy about sex (or masturbation) when there's nothing unholy about feeding any of the other needs a body has - like hunger or thirst. I mean, that's just the way we're built. I can understand excessive lust being bad (as in, being unhealthy) just the way binge-eating or drowning are unhealthy. 🤣 But lust in itself is perfectly natural. Just like you need fire to cook food, but too much of it burns down your house... Or something. 😀 Anything is natural and healthy, as long as a) it feels good, b) it doesn't harm anyone and c) it's in moderation.

Live-action porn is a more contentious issue. I feel ambivalent about it because I feel weird just objectifying human beings like that, but that's just me and my silly hang-ups, and most porn's too fake to do anything for me, anyway (especially American pornography - the women are almost always faking it!). But those are just my personal tastes. There's certainly nothing wrong with enjoying pornography as long as the actors involved are consenting adults. shrugs

Artistic or literary pornography is much simpler. No real people are involved, so - yay! Just paper and ink! One can enjoy oneself at least without worrying about whether the people involved are actually consenting or are being coerced as part of some crazy sex trade racket. Basically, there is 0% chance of getting my jollies from someone who's in an awful situation. Nothing to, uh, 'prick' my conscience, there! (Sorry, sorry. Bad pun, I know!)

There's nothing wrong with masturbation. In fact, masturbation can help reduce stress, enhance self-esteem, relief from menstrual cramps and muscle relaxation. It can also allow one to have sexual pleasure in a relationship where one is less sexually active. I don't see how masturbation is a taboo in some religions. It doesn't harm anyone (unless it is done so frequently that it becomes an obsession).
And porn. Many people watch it. Nude people/person stimulating genitalia and going in all sorts of positions... 😐 ... Well, I don't see how it is sinful, unless if you're in a relationship or in front of under-age people...
We see these things in some manga and oneshots all the time. It's all good. 🙂 No harm is done to anyone.

As another Christian myself, I can comprehend your struggles as I have been there as well, with some of the different denominations of the Christian belief.
When I was around twelve years old, I saw a TV show on a Christian network channel late one night and after that, I gave up masturbation for as long as I could stand it. Nevertheless, that only lasted for two months. However, the effect of the show was still prominent in my mind, so every time for years after when I did give into my sexual urges, I felt like a slut of a woman and would feel bad about myself. Now as an 18 year old, I know better, not because of my age, but because during at least my puberty stage, when I gave up masturbation for long periods of time, my mind would become warped. I would truly rape perfect strangers in my mind, and I couldn't stop perverted thoughts entering my mind almost all the time. Now masturbation isn’t all the way suppressing that, (I still have a strong love for smut manga lol) But it does help sooth people -in my opinion, so that we are less ravenously hungry animals than what we could be. (Think wolf in sheep’s clothing) I guess for some people that could be a bad thing, but for me it works.

As for porn, I think live porn is pretty fake. I think I like smut manga/anime or erotica with a story line much more better, and it doesn’t seem to be as derogatory on the sexes so much as objects. So I guess in short I agree with what tarufo said

I thought I'd chime in with an opposite view. I understand that concupiscence makes life difficult and I'm not an exception (I'm deeply fascinated by topics related to sex, which is why I'm this thread caught my attention). I also agree that guilt-trips and the like often make avoiding what's deemed in many forms of Christianity as improper sexual conduct more difficult. (Sustained by grace) [a] consistent prayer life and a sincere belief that you love God (if one believes that masturbation falls short of loving God) helps with making the decision to persist in proper conduct.

im a christian or rather a protestant.. but im quite religios.. so i guess thats the same thing.. ok sratch that not really religious, im a spiritual type and i believe that when they say that masturbation is teaching selfishness.. i think that its actually preventing prostrate problems!! though i dont masturbate because im saving myself for marriage..
as for the pornography.. it doesnt really matter if im against it or not nothing will be done about it.. people will continue to objectify others.. and thats bad.. so im pretty much against it but we have to lose some of our innocence to expand our horizons, right? 🤣

I believe you argued that gay people are too interested in having sex with people to want to get married. Here you're saying that if people masturbate too much, they won't want to have sex enough to enter into a committed relationship.
