Which Genre scanlation groups are the WORST about sharing?
Shoujo~ But from what I've seen, it's more of the Shoujo + Smut... ><

please disregard my previous comment.
bloody shoujo series are frigging hard to download, for all the eye bleeding pink websites, they always seem to release exclusively on IRC, or you need to sign up on the forum and have a minimum post to download anything.
Sheesh, bloody fangirls are more paranoid then hentai scanlation, who ironic seem to be some most "liberal" to download.
Seriously, i don't read shoujo series, but occasionally i do enjoy a bit of the romance comedy that comes along.
for all the recommendations i see flying around, it doesn't mean squat when you can't even read one chapter.

Now that most of us agree that it's shoujo, I just wonder why that is? Is it the nature of shoujo manga itself or is it the scanlators? Why would people feel compelled to set ridiculous requirements (like prerequisite post counts in forums) before letting people download their manga when clearly the general goal of scanlation groups is to make (the otherwise unavailable) manga available to everyone?
I haven't really been actively reading manga for the past year or so, I don't really have much to say about the subject, but I sure am curious as to why it turned out like this. 😀

i would probably hazard to say that the majority of those involved with shoujo, that they want to encourage socialization and loyalty to the group.
Perhaps in the 90's where the resources for downloading was limited this make sense.
but in this new era of plenty of free file hosting services, there really isn't an excuse, maybe they are reluctant to adapt to the situation? maybe they are afraid of the new openness?
Maybe female appreciated & dominated scanlation teams are just naturally aggressive and suspicious towards anyone outside their group?
who knows?
all i have to complain is that i have a few chapters from some of the shoujo series from some of these groups when they use to host direct-download links.
but 2-3yrs later, when i want to follow up on them, seems like there isn't any bittorrent or archive file host service.
its all on restrict forums and irc (which i don't have the time to relearn all over again.i'm too old, and money to make)
it's annoying. 🙁

I personally feel shoujo scanslation are guarded more because of the people involved, but if the yaoi groups are more relaxed even though it's probably 98% girls, it's a bit of what they are scanslating. I hear yaoi tends to be very short works like oneshots or one volume, so there's no real personal investment like I would think with at least a 3 or more volume series.
And maybe it's a bit like how a wife or a girlfriend treats her husband or boyfriend nicely by making his bed and taking care of the house and he takes her for granted and doesn't show any signs of appreciation. I think it's fair to say girls need at least more affirmation than guys.

thank you for that incredible simple explanation.
For some amazing reason, my man-brain-goo can actually understand that.
I feel proud.
(praise me! yay!)
so that at leased, is one (plausible) hypothetical reason.
But that doesn't seem to explain why Inane Scanlation and (others for example) is like that, they don't seem to do shoujo series, more like shounen with Naruto on their active list.
i guess there must be something else, maybe the "old guard" mentality?
not embracing the new technology? perhaps clinging to the old image of "irc encourage real-time socializing!" yet ignoring the gazillion silent users who leech in the background.
I dont go fr Yaoi but shoujo downloading is like, post 25 or 50 or more, wait for password...search the whole forum like crazy since the search engine will obviously be flawed, its like a secret franchise, solve this game and then u can level up to get treasure...shounens are teh easiest to share thanks to great people like franky house, and many many more lovely people, no fusses comparatively but I cant really complain coz shoujo shounen or whatever, these people are doing a great job, God bless them.. If tehre were like a public donation site for all scanlators then I would have donated tehre instead of going here and there and see , o look , thats the donate button!
Bump, because I'm interested in the topic~ 😮

Shoujo....defnitely shoujo....those bishie crazed girls/guys ;D. They don't like to share bishies you know 😁
Yeah, but seriously...shoujo's the worst about sharing. I should know...I'm in those groups and don't like sharing projects much >_> And yeah, the whole post count thing, I don't mind it, but not for those that make you post 23455543344 to get the releases though >:-(

I use download sites, so I wouldn't really know. Though I pretty sure yaoi and hentai are bottom of the lists.

shoujo.
which reminds me i need to go up my post count on a few. For one of them i don't quite remember the manga that i'm after it's been so long.
We are all more afraid than we are willing to believe but we are also more braver than we could have ever dreamed.

Shoujo! Definitely shoujo.
I hear yaoi tends to be very short works like oneshots or one volume, so there's no real personal investment like I would think with at least a 3 or more volume series.
That makes a lot of sense. If one group has been scanlating a series for upwards of 7 volumes, I can understand why they would be aggravated if another new group popped up and started scanlating it, too. Especially if the group didn't start at the beginning but started on a chapter the original group was in the process of translating/editing.
Girls might be more possessive, too. I've seen admins of other groups yell/curse/make snide remarks to admins of groups that "stole" their projects.
I think it's a different story for the really popular manga though. I've seen multiple groups scanlate popular shounen and popular shoujo without huge fights, EX. Naruto, Bleach, Skip Beat, Ouran, etc.
Maybe because there are different varieties of these, like speed scans vs higher quality scans?
