Can't really think of any examples in manga, but take Prison Break as an example. The reason it was so wildly popular at first had a lot to do with the endless episode-cliffhangers, many of which grand enough in size to be season-finale'ish.

I actually hate when I... miss out on a cliffhanger. Read a manga/watch a show when the last episode drawn/aired is beyond the cliffhanger, and I lose the suspense because I can just watch what happened immediately.

Yes, at times it can be almost unbearable to have to wait for it, but missing out on a cliffhanger is worse - what should've been an amazing high-note is reduced to a going-through-the-motions-thing. I'm pretty sure I would've enjoyed 24 a whole lot more if I hadn't been able to watch the entire 8 seasons front-to-back.

I can see the point of them, but I don't particularly like them.. Honestly lately I've been so distracted it doesn't especially matter because I need to reread the previous chapter of something before I can remember and read the latest one and know what's going on. Dx I must be getting old.. u.u''

Admittedly though, they are a good way to build suspense and anticipation, and if you don't have to wait too long to find out what happens it's a pretty nice effect.. xP

It's not that I hate cliffhangers, I just think that after one I always expect something worth the wait but usually I am disappointed... and if it happens more than once in a manga (disappointing after-cliffhanger chapter) I just start to lose interest...

I love those manga that can be interesting and u're looking forward to reading them even WITHOUT a cliffhanger. 😉
