lol
i'm surprised that you haven't introduce the "light" genre as a companion to "dark", because if there's a genre to describe the "heavy darkness" of a manga, then the natural follow-up would be a genre to describe all the manga with exceedingly happy stuff in them, right?
i maintain that this is what the whole category system is invented for
ps: oh yay, cool post count
i generally lurk until i have something to say, or to add.
but what you are saying is stupid. im no moron, adding light, because you don't need it.
you're asserting that you're not a moron, yet you're quick to dismiss other people's suggestions as stupid? i just proposed another logical follow-up to your suggested genre and you just called it stupid right away....how would you take it if someone does that to your own suggestion? because in my opinion, "dark" in no way can ever really be considered a real genre...dark can be the mood of a story or novel or manga, but can you really use it as the genre when probably half of all the manga written dealt with "dark" issues and had "dark" conflicts throughout their plots?

and because its hard to tell if people are taking this seriously or mocking me, would picking up a manga that is, lets say light hearted, happy in tone, or anything make people not want to pick it up? in all likely hood no, however when crap like what i have in the spoilers happens, id say alot of people would hesitate to pick it up.
why would you call a manga with light-hearted or happy elements "crap"? and by the way, i was offering you another companion genre to your suggestion in my first post, but now that you mention it, i see a lot of reasons why i should just mock your suggestion...you can't just dismiss the possibility of a "light" genre because you yourself aren't into reading happy manga...this community of manga readers has diverse tastes and preferences, so don't just assume that no one would want to pick up a manga that makes them all happy and dandy inside...

first off, i have to deal with people taking EVERYTHING i say and going to extremes every single day and i cant exactly say anything to them about it. i hate those arguments, and if you ever have had to deal with people you cant walk away from having an argument, like "you cant let gays get married because than people will want to marry there pets and kids"
granted that argument for light isnt taken ad far but still those arguments, in every case i have ever ran into them, is said by someone who is either a complete moron, or so afraid of change that they are forced to make the most moronic assumptions.
light, i have never seen as a bad thing, and i seriously doubt anyone else has either. however i have friends who refuse to pick up a manga i would consider dark. just like how i avoid most tragedy manga until its over.
and this here
*why would you call a manga with light-hearted or happy elements "crap"?
i never did, to me bad words are used more as adjectives than and a derogatory terms, and what i was referring to were the 3 things that i mentioned in the spoilers without actuality saying what was in the spoilers, i could have just put stuff, but i didn't realizes that crap would be taken so literally and wrongly.

an opinion poll on people who are here is a nice thing to have.
and i also forgot, because i set this up along time ago and forgot about it, but release filters.
im not sure you can do it with tags, in fact i doubt you can, but i put allot of manga though a color code, black is generally the avoid this color, green is ill probably love it color, purple is for hentai, and tan is for the probably dont like.
i know there are alot of people who dont like darker themes in there fiction, as they read it to get away from that stuff, and others would love to read it.
if any of you read hentai, than you probably know this tag. NTR
that is one of those tags that you can either read it or you just cant stand it, there is almost no middle ground with that. and if a hentai chapter that was NTR got released and they didn't label it NTR you would be pissed. that is what the difference between normal shonen seinen and the dark tag would be. and like NTR, you dont have a not NTR tag either
plus, dark is one of those things you want to know right away, and a tag, honestly, unless the community realy steps up, the tag may not be there for volumes.
im going to stick around in this thread for quite awhile unless i feel its completely dead, so instead of making assumptions in the future about what i say, or what apply to whom, ask for clarification, as i know alot of what i write may not make or be inturprated the way i want it to be.

I don't think "Dark" should be a genre, tag seems to fit more since it's very precise (and a lot of manga contain "Dark"-elements...
Maybe an option to filter tags as well might be better instead of adding genres just so you (not specially to the OP but the people in general) can filter them.
Given that mangas having some tags like incest, rape, gore/guro, dark ambiance, crime and so on, which can't really be put just into one genre (like shoujo/josei manga that can contain rape, not only hentai), but still people would like to filter them because they dislike/hate them, this would maybe be more useful than adding x new genres just because more or less people want to filter them too...
