Hanzou ordered Nagato and Yahiko to fight each other, or else Konan will die. Yahiko who didn't want to fight Nagato (and vice versa), decided to end his life for the sake of Konan and Nagato.

Seems like the author is trying to show why there are so many attacks on Konoha. I don't actually blame pain for the attack anymore, but why endanger the innocent villagers. If I was pain I would just go for the villain Danzou, he did get rid of Hanzou so it would have been the logical choice.

So Danzou is responsible for obliteration of Uchiha clan and now we learn he is responsible for the creation of Pain. That old son of a beep! I have a feeling that when all is done he is probably going to be the final boss. I wouldn't be surprised if he is in cahuts with Madara.
