Naw, it was explained in the fullbringer arc that his skin was his "pride" or something like that.Which was the "item".despite having that gift from his grandfather as the perfect item to get his powers from..

He's really proud of his darker skin because of his Mexican grandfather.

This chapter answers one of my major questions from early Bleach: why do they care about fireworks? It always seemed weird to me that they would just happen upon a group of people that made fireworks and could send a huge ball filled with people into the air.

Isshin seems to have a sister (who took the Shiba name)... I can't say it surprises me. He always struck me as someone involved with the zero squad. Also, his knowledge of the "final getsuga tenshou" training seems like one of those secrets a noble family would keep. Byakuya was astonished when Ichigo got his bankai because only a "small fraction of people" get bankai and most of them were members of noble families because they had secret training to achieve it. There are exceptions of course, Renji and Soi Fon to be sure and probably the students of Yamamoto (Ukitake, Komamura, and Kyouraku -- though Ukitake seems to have a connection to the Shihouin family since he had that device to destroy the Soukyoku). Internal soul society socio-political structure has fallen away hasn't it? We only got to know the names of 3 noble houses of the 6... though I think a fourth was created for one of the fillers.

Also, on the memory issue, I think it's only the weak spirits that are erased, if even that (honestly I don't remember any mention of losing memories in the transfer to soul society). The parrot boy (can't remember his name) was mentioned to have a distinct reiatsu, and they tortured Ishida's grandfather to get information about the quincies, so he didn't lose his memory either. Also, I think they mentioned somewhere around the Ganju chapters that many spirits are looking for their families, but most just give up because the place is huge.

not quite true.
Grimmjow disappeared during the hueco mundo arc, even though he clearly was alive and nowhere close to fatally wounded (at least, fatally wounded in the bleach series)
Telling us where he ended up is tying up a loose end.

Not necessarily. In asia they call close people by aunt and uncle all the time so it may simply just be that
