Yuri Manga Preferences

I don't usually do the whole topic starting thing, but it's really disparaging for me as a yuri fan to have this Yaoi/Yuri board now, yet there be nothing but yaoi topics for like the first three pages. I decided I'd at least put up one yuri topic to correct this.
So yeah, taking the basic idea from the recently started "What is the first thing you look for in a yaoi?" topic, my question is essentially: What makes a yuri manga really stand out for you? Feel free to name any yuri manga that do really stand out for you as well.
For me, I tend to like a strong plot driving my yuri manga more than anything else, so that's where my vote went. I actually prefer it when it being a yuri is a secondary point to the plot rather than the whole focus of everything, though generally I'm not really picky when it comes to yuri; I read everything except for the more realistic josei stuff.
At the moment, I'm really loving Himegami, Creo the Crimson Crises and Octave.

First of all, I look for good art.
Then, for realism.
Of course, plot is also a must.
I prefer shoujo-ai to yuri in most cases.
Though one of my current favs is plica which only matches the realism. lol
And still I enjoy it a lot.
Hrodulf and Bjornolfr, you will not be forgotten.

I read a bit of straight-up hentai/yuri. It's a good change from straight hentai and yaoi occasionally. I can take anything as long as it has drawing style I like and NO huge boobs and is not violent. Fluffy and cutesy shoujo-ai/yuri stories are boring. I quite like something like Sweet Lips, Yurihime and Futago-chan PROOF (more orgy than yuri though).
I voted for humor. I read hentai and yuri mainly for a laugh. I find Lesbian Excellent quite funny. I like 3somes in hentai - be it MMF or FFM. I tried Octave but it's a bit boring to me, though I can give it credit for being more mature than the school life fluff.

That's what I look for in my yuri as well. ^__^
But I do appreciate realism in the yuri I read, but well I'm not that picky either.
I'm currently reading Octave as well. Great read! 😃

a good plot beats anything. and it's also the easiest thing to hook incoming readers; it doesn't matter if everything else sucks, if the manga is interesting people'll want to read it.
himegami is really good, but the yuri is only one-sided so far.

I wouldn't say it's one-sided. Hyou has stated many times that Himeka is the only one important to her she has (which I'd say counts as love), and Himeka has rather clearly expressed her feelings for Hyou at several points (most clearly in the final chapter of volume 2).
Now the yuri isn't as in your face and obvious, so maybe that's why it seems one-sided, but that's really why I appreciate the series so much, that it remains a subtle but sweet relationship between the two.

true, it's not as obvious as one would expect compared with other yuri manga, but right now it feels like hyou isn't reciprocating enough affection to make it seem like she's genuinely attracted to hime. but i bet she will as the series progresses.

Just show some good story and some good romance... sensualism is an added bonus... or is it?? 🙄 ... 😀
Went for "A good romance". I like really emotional stories with sweet, gentle girls and don't mind if it's very slice of life and plotless. Can't stand it when it's just smut through, grrrr.
Also reading octave, really enjoying it, the pace is kind of slow but i think it's just going to get better and better as it goes on 🙂
