There's actually going to be a lot more than 3 FFXIII games. Square Enix wants the FFXIII universe, Fabula Nova Crystallis, to last for about 10 years.
As for FFX... it was alright. Not a bad game but I have not loved a FF game since FFVIII (not including FFXI and the re-releases of their older games).

As a relatively long-time fan of FF, I can safely say that FFXIII looks freaking awesome! I've just watched the trailer and, OK, it's cut-scene heavy, but there are some gameplay sequences which are what most got my attention. It did remind me of the first time I saw the trailer for FFVII and HAD to have it. This is top of my wishlist as of right now.
Mind you, December 31 2008 as a launch date? Surely some mistake.
Like a lot of people, I used to dream of a remake of FFVII on PS3, but then I played FFXII. Best of the series by a long shot! IMHO, of course!
VII is better than VIII because the story is better. I didn't play IX because I felt let down by VIII. X renewed my faith, I even like X-2. XII has made all previous incarnations irrelevant, though. All that has been promised before, namely a fully playable FF world, is right there. No more random battles (the bane of all FF games, I say), a battle system that is strange only the first few times and then makes complete sense. And on a 7 year old system!

I hate to say it but I loathed XII, and the main reason for that was the battle system, it was a cool concept at first but then turned into a major annoyance. I'll take a battle system from any of the previous games before XII's anyday. If XIII, the main game not versus, takes the same battle system as XII I'll definitely try the game and see if it is any better, but it doesn't matter cause if the game does indeed go multiplatform then I'll probably pick it up regardless.
Rumor has it that, since Square-Enix stated that it is going to focus more on remakes than new IP's, there will probably be a remake of VII and VIII. Yay for VII, meh for VIII since it pissed me off that I would work hard to kill a boss and be rewarded with 0 exp.

Same reaction here, it was like charlies angel reloaded when i first strated out with the game. But Yuna was so FAB~! 😀

You don't understand how marvelous it was that bosses didn't give of xp... Actually if they did it would have been awful. And most bosses where easy, and leveling up was extremely easy if you know where and when to do it.
The one FF that I would have really loved to see remade is FFVI, and there is EXTREME room for improvement for this one.
FFVII is also worth it, but I didn't like as much because I played the french version, which didn't make sense at all. The translation was horrible. Since then I only bought the American versions. At least the story means something. I hate square Europe for ruining such a good game for me.

FFVI is bound to get a DS remake by the look of things. Square Enix has released a upgraded FFIII for DS, and they're starting on a FFIV remake for DS.
FFVII would probably go to PS3 and to a much lesser extent maybe the PSP.

I dislike FF XII for the story line. It doesn't grab my attention as well as all the other FF. The battle system was alright, but after awhile it just seem like you could just leave the game on and you won't die.
FFVII is my favorite and I am over joy to see a remake of it. As for FFXIII, the only reason I would get PS3 as of now would be to play both these game.

I have a bad habit of not leveling up like I should, especially if the game doesn't have random battles(new games) or if it's my first time through(all rpgs), so I do like to see bosses give xp cause it still allows for me to finish the game. But then there are games like FFX which didn't give you exp but gave you things for the sphere grid which made it a joy to level (plus there was also the whole thing with the save spheres that refreshed your health and magic which made it easy to level).
Just now I realized that the games that I actually put forth effort to level (FFVII, X, and recently the .hack//GU games) are the games that I enjoy playing.

FFVII is my favorite FF title, i liked the story for FFXII but the gameplay ruined it for me. i just found the battle system annoying and the license board irritating. i'm hoping XIII can renew my love for the series. sad to say i can't afford a PS3 right now 😢

same here i really like VII and XIII look good but theres no way im going to pay $600 for a ps3 😔

i would say that you've missed out half of your bowl of rice if you won't try it....i can tell by the trailer that such an awesome game with amazing graphic would only be able to function smoothly on the PS3....well, unless you got some ultra super-computer for the sole purpose of gaming......
