I'd recommend foobar2000. Simple, clean, and you can minimize it to your tray. Just queue up your playlist and let it go in the background.

I am using FLV music player software for windows 7. This software is more friendly with window 7. Windows Media player is another good player software but i prefer to download VLC musci player software. It is very sharp to play anytime.
I use Winamp with DFX.
Pretty light to run and customizable.

I use Itunes since I am familiar with it. It is really simple and easy to use. The only disadvantages are:
- It cannot play FLAC.
- It cannot sync with Android.
For videos I use Media Player Classic - HC. Contrary to Windows Media Player it never failed me. It can play a lot of codecs, too, MadVR being one of them.
Windows Media Player, just because it's right there in your system. But I use iTunes because I usually play playlists listed on my iPod.
VLC for music is weird IMO. 🤢

I prefer to use foobar2000, mainly because it's pretty lightweight, and you can customize it via plugins from the developers' website or from various third party sites. You can pretty much have your foobar client as bare bones or as fully loaded as you wish. Plus, it can double as a mp3 converter via LAME and also a CD burner/ ripper (also via LAME as well) as well. Plays pretty much every format possible, with the appropriate setup.
