Again, this poll is from qrf. Personally, I don't really like this question and how it's phrased, but oh well...I'm not expecting a huge turnout because of the topic. But who knows? Surprise me~

If you wanna give the specifics on the mangaka you like, you can do so on our forums:
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=9010

Previous Poll Results
Question: Do you use any anime/manga related jargon (eg, tsundere, yandere, kawaii) in daily life?
Choices:
Yes, everyone around me use them - votes: 284 (2.7%)
Yes, but most people around me don't understand - votes: 1498 (14.1%)
Yes, but only when I discuss anime/manga with other fans - votes: 2502 (23.6%)
No, but I understand the terms when someone else says them - votes: 5124 (48.4%)
No... What do those words mean, anyways? - votes: 1180 (11.1%)
There were 10588 total votes.
The poll ended: November 29th 2008

As expected (at least for me), the "No, but I understand the terms when someone else says them" option won. For those of you who voted for the last option, perhaps you know what they mean now, eh?

Why wasn't there a "No, and I'll shoot anyone that uses them" option for that last poll?

lol that would be an interesting option...

But I bet the one I voted for will get the most votes...

I have mangaka I like, but I don't automatically follow their works unless they sound interesting. e.g. I liked City Hunter but I haven't bothered with Angel Heart. I liked Death Note but I don't want to read Bakuman. I don't follow mangaka, I follow manga.

This holds true for me as well. With 2-3 very good ones that suit me and that I follow ardently.

And "mangaka stalking"? Honestly, the poll doesn't even sound anything like we or fans are chasing down the mangaka on "friends" site such as MySpace or Facebook, or go to the extreme of a real stalker that would fly to Japan and chase one of them done.

I don't think I've heard fans say anything more than something like "Watase Yuu-sensei", which has me rolling my eyes because with how she screwed up Fushigi Yuugi, especially in part 2 with the "Gaiden" part (not the Genbu part), she does not deserve a teacher title. There are other shoujo mangaka that are better and more worthy of a "sensei" honorific, in my opinion. I'm still reading Watase Yuu's stuff, but after Absolute Boyfriend, I don't think she is the mangaka that I can find satisfaction with.

But the poll also assumes some fans are so hardcore that after a mangaka has won the person over, whatever junk is put out by the mangaka is actually is junk, the person will still gleefully read it even if it's the 10th time that the person gets a bad story that the person doesn't even like.

Because a term like tsundere/yandere is VERY niche and not something most people come into contact with.

Kawaii is something that one gets to know quite quickly through anime though. As for tsundere, I've seen that in my media 2-3 times. Yandere not at all. So unless you like forums you won't know them.

This. I've read manga for I don't know how long, know Japanese, and still just found out what "tsundere" meant last month when I came across someone using it to describe hentai (not my usual genre to read 😛 ).

"Because they're not weeaboos? o.O"

Because unlike "tsundere" and "kawaii", "weeaboo" is perfectly acceptable to use in any social setting.
