So, what suckers you in the most, into enduring a not so great manga/anime? This can be from the manga itself or from external factors like friends or whatever.

Ecchi - Sort of ashamed to admit that if i see anything ecchi in the first chap/episode i will continue to the next and probably finish a crappy series if the flow is maintained.

Dumb characters - You can't blame me we all love them!

Friends- Main reason i started reading Gantz, they talk about it so much. I actually think the mangaka is kinda... erm... stupid 🤣 . But i can bear it, it's not that bad.

Comedy – I am always sold on this.

Weird characters - Perverted characters, annoying/hyperactive (main character) friends. They are all so classic.

Tough girls - Girls + guns/sword/ any general weapon = WIN!

Great animation/drawing - Another reason i kept reading Gantz. Also some of Naruto's fight scenes made me realize this the most.

Shounen idealism - 😳

Character development and good writing.

Yeah, I know, I'm a very odd person.

Character death.

If one of the main characters dies, and I know it, I'll definitely read it, just because its so rare.

But wouldn't that make a good manga? The OP was asking what would make you continue reading a mediocre or bad manga

Yuri. Even if there are only just little hints or a minimum level of subtext or just something between minor side characters I will watch an anime even if it's not that good (perfect example: Kyoshiro to Towa no Sora anime).

Female lead in a shounen/seinen series (particularly action series). I will automatically watch/read any shounen/seinen I find featuring a girl as the lead character.

Kick ass female characters. Even if they're not the lead, if there's a girl who totally kicks ass, I watch/read.

Kinda twisted, morally gray protagonists. I find it far more fascinating when the protagonist is a darker character than some good guy loser. Even if a series isn't that great, if the main character is at least interesting I'll continue it.

Ecchi. Mind you, this isn't as big a draw as the first four. If a series sucks enough, it doesn't matter how ecchi it is, I will be driven away. This is especially true of series with lame main characters, especially harems.

Even if the plot is stupid, if something is really really violent I'll read it anyhow. XD

for it's a hard or cold male/female main character....

also.....a sadistic psychotic narcissistic or neurotic main character....pretty much if the main characters fucked up, then it's usually for me

or a manga that shows the harsh reality of society....such as a Akumetsu, Bitter Virgin, Deep Love - Ayu no Monogatari or Ciguatera etc...
