Berserk is good, but highly overrated.

GTO is far better. To call it spectacular, would be to underrate it.

Japan's greatest teacher WILL prevail, in this contest and any other. Hell, he could probably armwrestle, like, 100 guys, or something, and still come out on top.

Only read of those four, Host Club and GTO. And I love GTO but I'll vote Host Club

Of those GTO was most interesting. They all are good, but GTO wins out in my mind. 🙂

He could probably, like fight a pack of wild boors while saving a female student from an oji-hentai

Comparing those mangas is like asking a vegetarian and a meat fan which is better:meat or vegetables.

Berserk ftw anyway 🙂

Damn! Hard choice as it were two manga I supported so far.
GTO and Nodame.

Well I'm a boy and I still prefer GTO at this point, so my
vote goes for it. 😀

If I were to vote for the favorite of mine that I thought had a chance to win, it'd be GTO.

But since I prefer Nodame, my vote goes to the girl with the piano.

I typically like Seinen better than Shounen, but GTO is by far the best manga up there.

🤣

well said !

But it seems to me that Berserk has still something very special : it's the deep evolution of the series through the more than 30 volumes . I'm not talking about art(even if obviously as many others mangakas the drawing of Miura have insanely progressed since he started) , style , characters ,etc.... I' m talking about depth.
What other comics in the broad meaning has such a wide array of genre : I know only one Cerberus (which begins as Conan adventure and continues as a political tale , then intimist story ,etc..) and it's a comics in the narrow meaning of the term . When it comes to manga there aren't any. Except Berserk .
If you take a close look to it there are really 3 parts in Berserk :

the first one until the eclipse is a classic drama with Guts and his relationship to the band of the hawk : it's full of prophecy , mysteries and the nature of the triangle between Caska-Griffith-Guts . He's commander Guts.

the secund part until the 2nd eclipse is more like an action quest with Guts as the Black swordsman (what a interesting nickname : he has not a name anymore you could also said the man with the harmonica in once upon the time in the west , or the man with no name or the man who smells like sunflower , or the man with the iron cloud , ... It's a classic device of the quest type) . He wanders through the country struggling with heinous and unbelievable monster stronger and stronger seeking for his nemesis .

the third part starting from this point is an epic adventure : Guts is no more the focus point . There is a team with a witch ,a noble, a scout ,etc... all of them having goals of their own (freeing from her father, fulfilling her magical power, protecting his mistress, etc...) .Guts is the leader but has totally let behind him his past (except for his revenge of course) as numerous scenes prove us when he has to deal with his legend .Besides that they are cast into a very complex geo-political background very light until now : we know of countries , leaders , units , places very precisely know . There is a world , there are people and what's more there are actions in which Guts and his team have nothing to do whatsoever : recovery of woman , withdrawal from an endegered position , gathering of army , diplomatic discussion ,etc....
Just count starting from this point in how many pages Guts is now ? it has dramatically dropped . Cause the scale has totally changed . In cinema it would be like moving from the big shot of the drama , to the american shot of action to the general shot of war film .It's not totally a metaphor as there are now really impressive drawings of thousands of soldiers . Battles on wich characters don't have clout anymore except for a sudden angelic apparition of griffith .

Through all those impressives changes Berserk has kept a perfectly coherent story with a very strong dramatic dramatic frame . Miura has a general view which is quite unique and so deserve to oustand from the bulk of the production.
