What? Who cares if a band advertises for Wal-Mart or whatever? Their music is still the same and they're making a quick buck on the side. 99% (at least) of the people complaining about bands "selling out" would do the same thing if given the opportunity
i wouldn't

99% of the same people just use the term sell out because they are angry that the obscure band they used to name drop to look cool are popular now.

because its good publicity, it earns them money, and its not like it's going to affect their actual music

Why are all these great bands submitting to commercialism D:
Example:
KISS
Metallica
AC/DC
The Rolling Stones
Pink floyd
(Jimi hendrix he's dead so I can't say anything I would say the beatles but lennon died and so did george so the rest is up to paul and ringo and I think yoko)
If I left any out tell me? but these are the most bands I've seen submit to commercialism like selling their bands out to friggin wallmart and old navy (Don't get me wrong I love those two stores but c'mon?) just stuff like that am I just retarted or am I kind of right?
You are about as far from the truth as possible for some of those bands. AC/DC and Metallica are two of the only bands that haven't sold their souls to comercialism. I mean have you ever seen their music on itunes? They are two of the bands now who honestly sell their music as CD's... they say that if you want to listen to an album of theirs you listen to all of it instead of picking out select songs and paying for them (as is the way with modern bands). Another thing... both bands have never released official hits albums, regardless of how much money it would inevitably make them. As far as they're concerned... the day they sell out to comercialism is the day their bands officially die.

Err, pretty sure hard copies sell for more money than iTunes tracks.
And how is selling CDs more "honest" than other, more convenient, release models (single tracks for example)?

And you wouldn't make any money 🤨
Even if you have a lot of talent, people won't notice if they've never even heard of you. Selling out doesn't mean giving up artistic freedom.
I don't care if a band 'sells out' unless it affects their music.
Unless it is a punk band. The irony is ugly.
