I'm astonished this comic has gotten popular. It's morally incoherent and a not, imo, an interesting story at all. All it really got is boobs.

Please, I will not judge anyone who enjoy reading this. Not the agenda here.

Look at it this way: The reason for the topic at hand is, for the fans, to justify it's greatness. 🙂

I don't feel like explaining myself to you, so I won't. I will however say the reason I started reading was because I'm a fan of the author. 😮

Not sure what you're getting at with "morally incoherent" as I don't really see it. Also the story is pretty cool, its got a great setting and nice characters that don't just power up every 50 chapters to fight the bad guy, usually its a teamwork thing and that's not something you see all the time in this kind of manga. I like its lighthearted feel and its always fun to read, in fact its one of the few mangas where I didn't dislike any of the arcs. Plus it balances all the creepy dark stuff I get from Seinen manga.

I also really like the author like silent killer said as well, Rave is a great manga (flaws and all) and Fairy Tail fixes most of Rave's shortcomings which makes it even better, at least for me.

I have to agree with despair666 and silent killer as well. I've been reading Fairy Tail since the first chapter came out because of Rave Master, but now it is by far and away one of my favourite manga. The characters are great and unique, I've never seen another character who just randomly strips like Gray. The story itself is really good and you can see the mangaka has an over all story in mind and little things that happen in earlier chapters that don't seem to fit or are unexplained always evolve into a major arc later on like Ultear and Zeref. One character doesn't just power up every arc to get victory and almost no boss is defeated by just one character alone, but it is a joint effort of friendship. I normally don't like the friendship conquers all theme but Fairy Tail does it in an interesting way. Most importantly the characters are just cool.

To each his/her own though. In the end though I shouldn't have to explain why it is great to you, it just is. I'd rather know why other people who like Fairy Tail. like me enjoy it that is why I am writing this.

why waste your time try to convince a person that obviously bashes and dislikes the manga? i personally think your reasons for disliking this manga is foolish and if that's your way of reasoning then why waste time trying to convince you when your decision has already been made? if the simple fact that its wildly popular isnt enough of a reason for you to try and find out YOURSELF why its so appealing, then let it go and read something else.

It's a great manga for me. Great battles and characters. But the best part is the anime. It has some great soundtracks IMO. However i can understand if you don't like it since i sometimes also when i read it, shake my head and say "really?" When some of the battles get way beyond how the protagonists can handle yet they beat the big bad guy with some "power of the guild" in the end without any deaths, injuries or the likes.

i kind of liked the manga... till the dead guy started comming back again and again... it felt like Goku became the bad guy and ... stoped trying to read it 😛 if they dont ress or bring another gerard in this arc i may come back to it...

Why should anyone justify Fairy Tail's greatness to someone who's vaguely described his own loathing of it?

To be clear, I've not read a page of it. I just wonder where gjoerulv gathered the gull to challenge Fairy Tail fans to defend something he's put such little effort in attacking.

I've read both Fairy Tail and Negima. Both are simliar and different. In my opinion, it's just a matter of taste. I've read Negima and stopped around volume 20-ish. I got bored of it. It was Love Hina in a magical way and I had this irritating feeling as I was reading Negima. Fairy Tail is similiar to Rave in terms of characters and weapons, but it seems to get my heart pumping.

Maybe it's because they have different genre and one appeal more to me. However, both are different in their own ways and people got different taste, so carry on with life (with more boobs).

I agree with everyone else here again. We should not have to justify why we like it. I'd rather those who like Fairy Tail take this thread over and make it a 'Why we like Fairy Tail' thread. I would be much more interested in seeing why others like Fairy Tail then convincing someone else why we like it.

To the one who said the dead guy kept coming back like Goku. That never happened. No one dies and comes back at all. People get defeated and disappear for a while then come back, but that is what happens when you don't kill anyone. Gerard never died.

He disappeared at the end of his arc and came back when he was healed by Wendy but he never actually died.

Don't get it either. I, too, didn't like the story. Read it till 100 and something. Must admit the magic was interesting, the art was good, the characters were pretty interesting too. But it just felt a bit ... brainless (no idea how to explain it properly actually).

But to each their own. I believe it's a good manga, but not quite my cup of tea.
