Been in a classical music rut lately and I was wondering if anyone here has any pieces they enjoy listening to. Seems I have "Flight of the Bumblebee," "Totentanz" and a few other famous ones on a continuous loop nowadays.

I don't know much about classic. The only pieces I know, are the really famous ones (those which nearly everyone knows). Here are some of my favorites:

My favorites include:

Rimsky-Korsakov's Sheherezade
This one is very romantic, meant to reflect the stories in 1001 nights.

Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition
Very dark, very Russian. Reflects some famous paintings.

Saint-Saens' Carnival of the Animals
Each short piano piece sounds like an animal. I like the aquarium and dance of the dead best.

Shubert's Unfinished Symphony
Dark and Dramatic, but not as dark as Pictures at en Exhibition 😉

Dvorak's Wind Serenade in D minor
This one's hard to describe, but I like listening to it when its raining outside. It reminds me of warm colors. It has this royal feeling to it.

I always did like compositions like Bolero and Radetzky Marsch. Songs like those tend to play through my head while I'm on a long trip. Can't take listening to Für Elise anymore. It always puts me to sleep. It seems to be the only thing I ever hear played on every musical gift card, music box and piano practice session.

Can't believe I forgot about "Pictures at an Exhibition." I haven't heard that one in some time. Never heard "Saens' Carnival of the Animals" or "Dvorak's Wind Serenade" before. "Saens' Carnival of the Animals" was really enjoyable. Still hunting for the latter.

Yiruma's compositions was a bit too soft in general for my taste though I did enjoy "Kiss the Rain." Funny but I'd swear I heard it from somewhere before.

Don't know much about "modern classic" songs myself. John Williams is one of the few I actually know since he composed the music for Star Wars. Let's not forget this one.

My all-time favourite classical piece would be Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto no 2. It's just wonderful, with all of the emotions and stuff.

Some other really cool stuff (for me anyway) would be anything by Scriabin and Tchaikovsky.

Hm, I like a lot... especially the ones they use in ballet, like Tchaikovsy's pieces. I love Chopin too. They're so fun to listen to. (I can never spell majority of composers' names >_< sorry)

I COMPLETELY SECOND THAT!!! Although Yiruma is not technically of the classical genre (more like instrumental) he's still an unbelievable musician! 😀

anyways i like:
clair de lune and cello sonata in d minor by claude debussy
the swan by saint-saens
song without words - mendolsson (sp?)
and some other song on the cello that i forgot by bach
theres more but i forget at the moment
oh and all of joe hisaishi's and nobuo uematsu's works
but i also like this japanese quartet called vanilla mood who covers lots of songs, but also makes their own music with is beautiful

i particularly like japanese classical music due to way they emply the cello's mellow nature into the music
