I've never read a shoujo or josei manga. However I did watch Ouran Koukou Host Club when i first started reading/watching anime and manga before I even knew what shoujo and shounen were and I liked it.

After selling half of my collection off on ebay during the course of 2008, I'm left with a meagre 700 tankoubans.
Bleach - 36
Kimi to Boku - 6
Skywalker - 1
Naruto - 5
Berserk - 30
^ those are the only comics that are not shoujo/josei. So you can imagine how much I've been reading/have read >.>;;;
currently following
- oboreru knife (shoujo)
- kiyoku yawaku (shoujo)
- clover (josei)
- bito lolipop, iketani ricaco (shoujo)
- kimi ga inai rakuen (josei)

I never really counted but it should be in the hundreds by now. I've tried reading some shounen/seinen series but the only ones I've been able to read so far (without dropping immediately) is Blood Alone and Superior, I can't handle a series if the main character is an idiot who treats his/her partner as a sexual object but still calls it love. I'm too much of a romantic to enjoy a series with a main character I could imagine strangling.

446 shoujo... 😢
I'm a guy who "probably" reads more shoujo than an average fangirl... so sad 😔
Why is it sad? I'm a guy too and I do not feel bad about it and neither should you!

I'm not sure it's comparable 'cause the standard plot type is totally different in a shoujo vs. a shounen. In most shounens, it's very action based, so the plot feels like it's moving fast 'cause it's usually about beating bosses, progressing forward, etc-so the progression can kind of be measured by wins and ultimate goals. the exception is the pure romantic comedy, which usually has a plot as slow as the typical shoujo if it's not a romantic comedy combined with something else (usually sports).
Oh really, I feel like lots of shounen don't progress at all, it's all about fighting, fighting and fighting again. They just move on the next bad guy until these fizzle out. And suddenly, it's all over, yay! the good guy has saved the world. All in all, it's a "fake" progression. There is not enough side-development or side quests [as you put it below].
The average shoujo's equivalent of beating the main villain is often the couple getting together or having sex, which isn't as "big" and doesn't have the obvious countable steps that tournament victories or whatever do, so it seems harder for things to feel like they move. Ouran and Perfect Girl Evolution highlight this by being so character based that they often feel more like a collection of side quests than a fully developed manga 'cause the main chars development gets such haphazard focus.
I second this though.

I've read a few shoujo and even fewer josei the total might not be even 15, and I think I read more seinen then shounen.

Around 300 but not all of my series are on my lists
But seriously, I only read shoujo and I've been reading for 5 years so the list would be massive.
I'm running out of things to read o_o

God too much, I know I've read every single josei/shoujo one shot yes every single one that has been scanlated. I tend to stay away from on going series because of scanlations and well I get too heated up over them but...certainly alot I have read def. over 600.

For Shoujo, I read way, way, too much to count, which includes scanlated and unscanlated mangas (raws), and many oneshots. As for Josei, I read a few, like 10....I dunno, because I don't read Josei as much as I read Shoujo. 😐
I read so much mangas, I'm too lazy to watch anime! 😛 😛 😛

Mostly all Shoujo, about 200 volumes, and 200 more titles that I can't get in the US. You can never read too much! 😀

Hmuh, to be honest I've got no idea, since I'm a bit too lasy to count how many of the titles in my list are shoujo (maybe there is a tool for searching it quickly but I don't find it...)
Well, considering that I have 248 shonen out of 557 series...I guess that makes around 200 shoujo/josei read.
I realise I don't read that much shoujo/josei in the end T.T
I'm very picky when it comes to shoujo, so I'll say about...5 XD omg i gotta start reading more=D
