I believe this system will not work. Some for the reason x0mbiec0rp said, other is that come on, what they will do if their server crush?? give 2 times that happens and a flood of complains will follow.
Well, other thing, does anyone understood what it is written here??
"Ubisoft also says that once the service is shut down a patch will be released for the games that removes the DRM system."
they are thinking about the possibility of the service not work the way they believe or they plans to shut down eventualy??
ps: well, if they can patch the game why would any other person not be able to? 😛

Couldn't agree more. Those who want to play some game for free will always find a way. What concerns me is that other game publisher are heading in the same direction, like Blizzard. Read this.
I don't really see a problem with that.
Can't be hard to pirate anyways.
I mean, look at the left 4 dead series.
Initially, you needed to be on steam to even play the game.
Now its easily crackable :\

Yeah, that picture said it all.
Every game I've bought in the last year I've subsequently downloaded because I had problems running the legit copies with their DRM.
Ridiculous eh?
The saddest part is that they haven't learned the DRM only hurts them in the end, as it seems to only delay and entice the crackers even more.
This pretty much eliminate the reason why I even play offline games... Generally, I play offline games when I don't have adequate internet connections like when I'm downloading stuff or when I'm travelling.

At least Battle.Net account is free... Ubisoft forcing users to pay for an online account is pretty ridiculous... 😔

In my opinion this 'anti-piracy' measure is a joke. They're not going to stop piracy with this measure. It's only a matter of time before some hacker releases a crack to get around the online requirement. They always do.
In the long run the only thing they'll succeed in doing is pissing off their paying customers. Especially those who have an unstable internet connection.

In this picture Ubisoft is the bus, the paying customers are the van, and the pirates are the running man...

Well Ubisoft is changing old StarForce protection, which required for original game to be inserted in the drive during playing, with new system.
From now on, games released by Ubisoft, starting with Settlers 7 and Assassins Creed 2, will require constant internet connection even for single player mode. You will have to be online during entire gameplay. Your savegames will be stored on Ubisoft servers, although it's possible they will be stored on players PC's as well. This will enable you to play your game from any computer that has it installed, but it will disable players that don't have internet, or have a bad connection from playing. Ubisoft practically sacrificed small portion of players matching this criteria. Also, if your connection breaks, game crashes instantly resulting in the lose of all unsaved data.
I for one, hate this system. It is unfair, discriminating, and very limited towards players, especially those who buy original games. I doubt cracking scene will have much trouble going around this new protection so the ending result will be something like this -

😀 😀 😀Not to mention they are using some stupid benefits, like exchanging your results with other players and social network of players, as an excuse. Pretty cheap. If you are a fan of conspiracy theories you can have a field day with this stuff. 😀 Who knows what information they could find about you, right?
So, fell free to chose your option and state your opinion of this matter.
in the link you posted it states that if you lose connection the game will pause and try to reconnect, not crash as you said.
not that I'm defending it, but you made it sound a thousand times worse by saying the game will crash =P
That is the result that certain gamer magazine got while testing pre-release version of Assassins Creed 2.
Sucks cock.
Although I don't really
play their games anyway.
Looks like I'll have something to
play around with.

Rumor: Ubisoft's New DRM Scheme Already Torpedoed By Pirates
Publisher Ubisoft's latest attempt to curb piracy of its PC games, making its debut appearance in submarine sim Silent Hunter 5, has allegedly been cracked by "sceners" the day after its release.
JA!
Ubisoft's controversial DRM servers were attacked and brought down over the weekend, preventing some Assassin's Creed II and Silent Hunter 5 owners in Europe from playing their PC games. The publisher's new online authentication policy seeks to prevent pirates from playing its PC releases by requiring users to stay connected to its DRM servers while playing its games WAJAJA

I play primarily on PC now, i buy most of my games, but ubisoft is shit now. wont pay anything to br screwed by thier drm.
I am usually a bit anti piracy, cause companies do need the money, but ubisoft should go bankrupt.
and is ubisoft so retarded? its far more easier to pirate on the Xbox / 360 than pc.
