I had a look, but couldn't anything similar so sorry if this is a repeat.

I was having an interesting convo with my sister about what she would do if her son grew up to be gay, to which she replied she would accept him, no matter what. We both love him so much that we couldn't imagine doing anything as drastic as totally cutting him out of our lives.

So, I want a manga where this does happen. For whatever reason, the child is disowned/kickedout/cut off from his/her family because of something they are/did.

Ideally, I would like a gay lad coming-out and getting this reaction, but since I'm more interested in the situation than steamy sex scenes, I am really flexible on this.

It can also be the child being a deliquent, not wanting to follow the family business or really any reason where the parent(s)/guardian(s) end up kicking him/her out.

I would like the child to be dependant on the parents still, if possible, but if they are independant and the manga still deals with the emotional trauma of being disown, then that's ok as well.

I am also open to cases where the child is abuse, but not disowned, but I would prefer disowned.

Summary
A deep, dramatic manga.

Any genre is ok
Focus should be on the emotional trauma of the child and/or parent
Some comic relief is ok, but I'm looking for a serious manga.
Angst is good, I love angst!!!

Koisuru Boukun - really good (any yaoi with an 8,8 rating must be good), and there are only 2-3 sex scenes per volume, so it's mostly plot, but the disowning part appears later in the story. Since the update is blocked on this page it shows that only 6 volumes are out, actually this story will end in about 7-10 days.

Totally Captivated the main character is gay and you only find out what his 'secret' is in till the last chapters...

But the reason his parents leave him is not because hes gay

Also this manga i forget why her parent left her The Prince's Cactus and its not yaoi or yuri 🙁
But once again i highly recommend this story! its great! i've re-read it like 6 times

The non-yaoi/yuri doesn't bother me, I'm not a massive fan really. I just like angsty boys, which are more common in yaoi. I've actually never read a yuri, but I'm pretty open to any genre as long as it fits.

Hmmm... okay... there were two works that came immediately to mind when I read "disowned by parents/guardian"

Fruits Basket basically deals with parental abandonment for the entire Sohma family (with two children being the exception). It's pretty angsty... it's not just parental abandonment, but also being cut off from society. Unfortunately, none of the characters are gay... but feel free to read it if you wish. It's quite long...

Not Simple is simply gorgeous... I felt so sad after finishing it... My face in the bookstore was one of a sad panda after reading the volume (a wonderful 193 pages). I felt upset and angry with the parents... I rooted for the main character with every page. Yes... read it!! He's a very interesting person to read about... take a journey with.

I've already read Fruits Basket and love it.The angst is perfect, but Ifound Toohru to be irritatingly cheerful (I know that was the point but sometimes I would just be like," for Heaven sake, cry already!" lol.)

I'm really not bothered about whether the characters are gay, it is the idea of abandoning a child that intrigues me. It was just that being disowned for being gay was what started this whole quest, and I guess it is more likely than being abandoned because you turn into a zodiac animal when hugged, lol.

The oneshot Home Sick Baby may not be what you're looking for exactly, but I found it emotionally affecting. It takes the perspective of a gay man who is estranged from his family. I hope you'll enjoy it! 🙂

I suggest in particular reading Momiji's story. He decided, in the best interests of his family, to let himself get disowned. Although Yuki's and Kyo's stories are good depictions as well - one gets sold for honour and money, and the other is accused of having killed his mother.

Momiji is the rabbit. His mother was distraught that she could never hug her son without him turning into a yellow bunny (personally, I would love that), so started breaking down. In the end, it was decided that her memories would be erased and he would be left with his father.
But because his mother had another child, Momo, who was normal this time, it is heavily implied that his father decided to live his life with his new family. This is reinforced by two events: when Hatori, the dragon, says that it was his "turn" to take care of Momiji (suggesting that the adults rotate between them), and when Momiji meets Tohru at her job, and his mom comes along with his sister saying that his father was waiting for them (them being the mother and Momo only). Effectively, Momiji has no family.
Other details include the fact that he's pretty independent (organized a field trip to the hot springs and chartered a bus by himself) and is sometimes accompanied by a caretaker (like Hatsuharu).

If it's any comfort, though, he crossdresses in high school because he thinks he looks cuter in female uniform. To be honest, half the guys in Fruits Basket like crossdressing and look like girls anyway (including Ayame the snake and Ritsu the monkey).

I am not anti-BL, but it is not a requirement. I have alreayd read ayashi no ceres though, and felt it was lacking something I couldn't put my finger on. Well i prefer the anime more than the manga, sad to say though this manga will never be finished since the author died, BUT I would still recommend you giving it a try.

The protagonist of Ningen Shikkaku has fallen out of favour with his parents -- though that isn't what the story is about. Still, it does play a rather important role in shaping his character. The first four episodes of the Aoi Bungaku anime are an adaptation of the story.
